First, Buler, what a hat. Better late than never.
Just got this pre-1946 Disney OR Clone called the "Ranger". The felt is as nice as any Stetson of the same period. How do I know it is from pre-1946? This is what I love about hats. The owner had used a newspaper as a downsizing-strip in the hat. When I pulled the newspaper out, it did not have a date on it. There was, however, an obituary notice for one Rev. Medary Gorsuch. He had died on July 15 of that year. He was 83. Below was his birthdate: January 18, 1863. Add 83 to 1863: 1946. Also, the fact that the owner needed to use a downsizer tells me he had bought a used hat. So, my guess is that this hat is even earlier than 1946. Does anyone have any idea if there was a market for used hats in the day? Anyway, just cool finding these things. By the way, the liner is not original.
