I also agree.
But I have to say I like KOTCS.
It totally fit with the type of film from the 1950s. Just as Raiders fit with the 1930s.
Loved Last Crusade also....Temple Of Doom however, IMO was the hokiest of them all.

Finally, someone who speaks with wisdom. Haha.

All I was thinking was "you can't just put on another man's hat" !

In Castle's defense (and I think it's mentioned in the show) he's like a child some times. Which must explain why all the kids I'm usually looking over tend to grab my hat and start being goofy with it. Haha.

Can't disagree here. Once an audience is used to an actor playing a particular character, it's hard to accept that role being played by anyone else, there are the rare exceptions though. Nobody can be Captain Kirk but William Shatner. Nobody can be Batman but Michael Keaton, and nobody's going to be Indiana Jones but Harrison Ford. Although Heath Ledger was a better Joker than Jack Nicholson, one of those rare exceptions.

Most people (including myself because I grew up with it more than Indy) see Harrison Ford as Han Solo. I didn't watch any Indiana Jones movies till 2008.

Though I would probably have to agree with you on this... and that's what he could have meant. I thought he meant that Castle just took the hat that was hanging there, didn't cross my mind that he was referring to Indy. Still, I think Nathan Fillion could bring something to the table with Jones just like Chris Pine did with Kirk. May not be as iconic to the original actors who portrayed them, but they can do the roles justice.

Yup, I remember Harrison Ford playing Han Solo. In fact, if I remember correctly, Harrison Ford played Han Solo one last time after he came on the scene as Indiana Jones in ROTLA. The first movie where I saw Harrison Ford was when he played Bob Falfa in American Graffiti. He drove a kick a$$ '55 Chevy in the movie and wore a Cowboy hat! I saw that movie 11 times when it first came out!...I don't know about Chris Pine as Captain Kirk though. When you grow up watching the original series it's hard to accept anyone else in that role other than Shatner...but, then again, like you said, maybe someone else will come along and do the Indy character justice just as Heath Ledger did for Nicholson's Joker. Brought back some memories.

I'd like to see American Graffiti some day. Been on a high with movies from past generations. Just recently watched Casablanca (finally) and Rebel Without A Cause.

Heath Ledger took the Joker, did it justice and then some... Though Indiana Jones 5. The news on Indiana Jones 5... I think I want someone new to play Indy. A new Indy for a new generation, just like Daniel Craig is the new Bond and Christian Bale is the new Batman (and Ben Affleck as well). What are your thoughts on this? I feel unsure about Ford reprising Jones for a fifth time, just like I am now with Episode VII of Star Wars.

Casablanca and Rebel Without A Cause, both classics! Excellent movies! You'll like American Graffiti if you get the chance to see it. If you like some of the old film noir movies, check out Robert Mitchum's "Out Of The Past"! Excellent movie, and nice hats too! There's one scene in the movie that shows a good collection of thin ribbons!

I hear you and understand your thinking but oh my... I can't see anyone but Harrison playing the part. That's going to be a hard pill for me to swallow. I do understand though. I still cringe at the thought that Tom Selek could have ended up playing Indy.

Harrison defined the character so well. Oh well, time marches on.

Oh yea! I thought Tom Selek was also a possibility for Han Solo as well.

At this point, I don't see an established actor taking the role of Indiana Jones. He has got to be a relative unknown, and have 'the vibe.'

And they may not get it right the first time, either. I haven't thought that James Bond was any good since Connery left and Craig took the reigns. Everyone in between was meh.

I think Fillion is goofball, and not suitable as Dr. Jones. Flannery bored me to death.

And that's why I love him. Though his role as Malcolm Reynolds, to me, says otherwise. Reynolds is a broken man, but will never show it. Who says Jones isn't a bit of a goofball either? Fillion is a goofball and his co-stars will agree with that. However, to this day, Malcolm Reynolds is his favorite character that he played. Ford gave Jones this larger than life persona. Fillion, being the goofball he is, could maybe bring a grounded tone to Henry. Just my thoughts, but yea I agree with you on not seeing an established actor taking the role as Indiana Jones. As whimsical as it is, Fillion could possibly bring a more relatable Indiana Jones to the table just as he did with Malcolm Reynolds. I guess you can call it wishful thinking. Fillion probably won't ever touch that role.

Anyway, what ar your thoughts on Indiana Jones 5? It's a rumor at this point, but Disney's actions have people asking "when" rather than "if".

I think that the main factor at this point is Ford, not Disney. He is not getting any younger. It was nice to see him reprise the role in 2008, but here it is, another 5 years later, and nothing has been done to get an Indy 5 project rolling, past maybe the discussion phase.

And as far as Ford doing Indy in 2008, I was barely able to suspend disbelief that he could do what he did at his age then. I don't see him as believable as an action hero any longer. It was pushing the boundaries in '08. Now, I don't think so at all.

The Big Three did a huge disservice to IJ fans for not keeping the series alive between '89 and '08. We want more, with Ford, but it is too late, I'm afraid.

I'll just enjoy my childhood memories of the excitement and imagination of the movies, pass them on to the younger kids and enjoy the hat fetish that Indy instilled in me. :)

I agree with you on all points, friend. Ford was awesome in his prime, even a little bit in IJ4. Though I can't see anymore Jones adventures after those four.

I remember watching a news clip on getting started with IJ 5. They were all on board for doing one, but the problem was the MacGuffin for the fifth movie. By now, Jones would be in the 1960s. Not sure what adventures can happen there since there is more civil unrest in the USA. Having the NVA or Vietcong as our main enemy wouldn't be smart either. Maybe.

Speilberg thought they were done with it. I can understand that it is a disservice not continuing on after Last Crusade. Though it's not at all their fault. Speilberg thought it was done, Ford and Lucas were up for another. We can't hold it entirely against them. Sure, they dropped the ball, but Indiana Jones... Honestly, I can say I'm happy with the four out now. Stretching out something like Indiana Jones sounds like a bad idea. Star Wars, Star Trek and James Bond, sure. Those franchises are going to continue to last generations. Indiana Jones... I didn't even know who Indiana Jones was until 2008. Jones just doesn't seem like that kind of a franchise to have so many movies. James Bond is one thing, Indiana Jones is another. Even if the concept of Jones was to be like a James Bond type of character. No, I say, while we want more Jones, it's best to leave it be.

While he is one of the most iconic action adventure heroes, only the four movies is enough. Some times a franchise doesn't need to last forever to be perfect. Prime example: Firefly and it's sudden, but inevitable, betrayal by FOX when they were canceled without much of a chance.

Indiana Jones should have stopped at three. I ain't saying Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was bad. Though we got the fourth, and I embrace it into my "collection" since that is the Jones of my generation. Now we have four movies. I say just leave it be. The other franchises I mentioned can continue on forever. Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones.

But Disney isn't going to listen and it'll probably either re-ignite the spark of Indiana Jones or kill it completely.
