The Conversion Corral

Here it is. Almost finished with my Stagecoach Long Hair conversion and it's definitely a favorite. I just have to sew on the ribbon. The ribbon and bow came off of a modern Whippet. This is one nice hat. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. As I said, this hat was a faded out and moth bitten 6 3/4 that was gifted to me by Bob Hufford. This one I turned inside out because the outside was so faded. I always liked a longhair look and wondered what it would look like that way. After I reblocked it, sizing it up to a 7 1/4, I pounced the brim down thinner until it was soft and pliable. The crown, I gently "combed" with a yellow sponge to get the fur to lay down nice and smooth, and then I went over it with a hat brush. The open crown on this one is somewhere around 6 inches tall. Since I put a wide ribbon on it I creased the hat 5 inches tall at the pinch with a rake sloping back to 4 inches tall. The snap brim is 2 3/4....the ribbon is not attached in these pictures. I'll do that tomorrow.

Yeah ... I'm a real generous guy. (Can't even send you a nice hat)

What you've done with it is amazing! I love how you've transformed it to a long-hair. It looks fantastic! Kudos!
Gotta thank you again for the hat, Bob. You sent me a better hat than you thought. We just have to look beyond what a hat looks like to what one could look like....and I'm really happy with the way this one came out. Thanks again buddy.

Outstanding Terry. :)

Here's the final product. I finally got the ribbon sewn on this morning. I took the ribbon and bow off of a modern Stetson Whippet. Looks to be Chocolate Brown, I think....dark brown for sure ;)

You can also get a pretty good look at how deep dished the crease is in the crown....tall and straight.

Fantastic, Terry. Love the longhair finish and the contrasting and wider ribbon is the best choice. Excellent job.

Working on my second Longhair conversion. This was originally a 7 1/8 Resistol Stagecoach in Chestnut that I previously converted and sized up to a 7 1/4. I hardly wore it because I wasn't too keen on the Chestnut color. With that said, it was still a rich looking color and the Longhair finish should make it look even richer. It'll have the same proportions, (with my preferred teardrop crease), as the Tanbark I just finished....

On the block drying out...

You are right, that color is enhanced by this treatment. Can't wait to see this one finished. You are an artiste!

I don't comment often in this thread, but I do poke my head in every once in a while. Feel compelled to add some kudos today for your work, Terry. It's been great fun watching your work evolve from ribbon swaps to entirely new creations. Fantastic stuff!
Thank you buddy. I really appreciate that.
