The complete Metropolis in theatres now

The holy grail of a "complete" Metropolis was unearthed in Argentina in 2008. It's been restored and is playing in theaters throughout the US. 25 extra minutes previously unseen since it's Berlin premier 83 years ago are now put back in the film and it also served as a template to help edit the film as well.

I saw it last night with my wife (it was our first time seeing it) and I was enthralled. It looks beautiful, though the new footage, a 16mm transfer, is noticeably deteriorated.

Do try and see it if it's near you:

Check out the trailer with some of the new footage :

PS: Brigitte Helm on the big screen! I think the man in the nightclub said it best: "For her, all seven deadly sins!"

Very exciting! There's a 100+ year old theatre just down the street from me that plays a lot of art house and old films, hopefully they'll play it at some point.

I'm really looking forward to this one. I've been following the story of the discovery of the lost footage with interest. Even though that footage is of lesser quality, it certainly fills out the story!

Sadly, the old theatre near me won't be able to play it, due to the format of the current release. In fact, I'll have to get a train to a nearby city to see it. But I think I will, because it'll be worth it!
