A T8 Mokka Maker from Krups might possibly be an alternative. These classics are already around for decades so you might possibly even get a vintage one second hand.

Long story short:

My Bialetti Venus (6 cups) and I finally became friends! The solution was a much coarser grind. I grind on 8 of 15 on my actual cone grinder. So the coffee simply has a much shorter contact with the Venus's uncoated can. Now, I can't really taste a difference between the Venus and the cheap storebrand pot with coated can.

Just for fun, I actually tried classic (plastic) handfilter on my mug. But equally, how I tried with the much finer grind, I just don't like the result. It doesn't give you this jummy rich taste of the moka pots, despite using the same amount of coffee.
Now it's totally clear to me, why the Italians love and hold on their moka pots. :)
