Does anyone know anything about resizing/downsizing for flat caps?

I purchased this '50s ivy style buckle back from an Etsy seller the other day, and it looks to be a little big for my lid. It's tagged a "7 5/8" but that seems to be a mistake, as the seller has confirmed that it has a circumference of 23". It appears to be in dead stock condition too. I'd guess that it's simply mislabeled, which probably wasn't such a rare occurrence when this stuff was all stitched on a factory line.

Anyhow, I'm typically a "7 1/8" though I find that doesn't necessarily mean much when it comes to vintage flat caps. The cap appears to be a true functional buckle-back, which should give me approx. 1/2 inch leeway, I'd assume. I may try some adhesive strips under the band too, if tightening the cinch isn't enough. I'm wondering if there's any way to have this adjusted approx. 0.25" by a tailor and resized for my head though? I imagine that might be difficult with the leather band and lining. Has anyone ever experimented with re-cutting fabric to size rather than just sticking a cotton or foam hat sizer strip inside the band?

Thanks.

New Cap Day!

Simonds Streamlined Cap. It takes inspiration from a vintage advertisement for a Streamline Cap. Certainly not a wool cap day, but I am excited to showcase this gorgeous cap. Coming and going the cap has eye appeal. The interior shows the artisans eye and hand.

Wow! that looks like a winner Feraud. I am trying to get down to a new shop in LA called Wellema Hat Company that is now carrying his goods to pick one up and see what else I can get for the fall.

Thanks. Wellema Hat Co had a booth at the Inspiration show held at the Brooklyn Expo. They carry quality goods.

I just received one of DamianM's summer chambray caps. This is a very well made cap! The fit is spot on and the leather sweatband is high quality. Nice work on the box design too!

Sterkowski 8 Panel Gatsby Newsboy Cap arrived!
I have several Caps, Stetson, Bugatti, Mayser, Wegener and so on and some of Sterkowski
a Biker Cap and a Maciejowski Cap and both are wonderful and handmade. I saw this nice 8 Panel Gatsby Cap on the Sterkowski Web Site in a Harris Tweed in Blue Black and Melange. That was a colorsheme that I am looking for.
The fabric looks great in real, and the Cap fantastic made, really.
My Size is 56, and the Cap I orderd a 56 too, and she fits perfect! The bill has a good stiffness and holds the shape you want! The Cap is from high Quality and plays in the same class as Stetson, Mayser or Wigens. For me definately not the last Cap of Sterkowski! Now Gentlemen some Photos in detail and some Photos how it looks in action!

Thanks to Barbara Fraczek of Sterkowski for fast shipment and a nice Correspondence.

Just picked my first cap made by Damien of Monsivais & Co. from Wellema Hat Co. in Altadena. I needed summer cap so I took the plunge and picked up Salt and Pepper chambray and I am not disappointed.
