Last year I bought this crazy 1940's pinwale cord shirt from Arnaud Bauville and his excellent FRENCH CANCAN blog. I've worn it a few times, and it is a conversation starter (and, occasionally, ender) every time.
Imagine my reaction to finding a few yards of the same corduroy, same vintage, with which to top the ensemble? I mean, WHAT ARE THE ODDS??!!??
So although I don't normally endorse being too matchy-matchy, how could I NOT make this L'aronde cap to complement the shirt??
L'aronde (The dove) 8-dart cap in 1940's pinwale corduroy, vintage cotton liner, leather visor and sweatband, rare 1920's NOS snap.
Keith, you are THE man! One of the more spectacular ensembles I've EVER seen. The gods of Cap-dome were smiling upon you that day.
If you have sufficient fabric, consider taking the ensemble look to the next level, as seen here at a high school graduation in my town a few years ago... My daughter told me both suits and her "hat" were home made by the woman.
Barry, that Is fantastic – and I can't believe you found modern wool that looks so incredibly vintage! Good work.
HatsRme - that's really nice of you to say, people are kind of split down the middle on that outfit – so much so that I think it has scared me out of wearing them out together! That photo of the couple is hilarious and really cute. Let that be me at 80 years old.
That's one of the nicest caps I've ever seen. I keep coming back to it and mentally pairing it with my brown Aero Long Halfbelt. They were made for each other.
