Patterned off of one of my favorite caps, a 1930's Parisian one-piece crown flat cap made by the venerable Berteil. This is the first time in a year that I've made a cap with a grosgrain ribbon sweat - and I'm in love all over again. Such a different feel than leather. For a lightweight warm-weather cap, it's hard to beat.

The Berteil casquette: 1930s flat cap in 1940's flecked lightweight wool, 1950's kimono wool/silk liner, 1920's moiré grosgrain ribbon sweat, leather visor, handmade tube-riveted ventilation grommets, vintage United Carr snap.

Here are a few in-progress shots. I've included one to show my beautiful 1920's cap-pressing stand (a Paris flea-market highlight), and another to show the tube rivets being made.

Very sharp all around Keith but the liner is especially killer. Paris is always waiting, what a magnificent city.

Great post from everybody lately as well, I've been tardy.

Here is something im experimenting with. Knowing some caps where somewhat colorfull

The wool cloth has great texture and easily accepts dyes so I Dyed it a Royal blue.

Got this beauty (1930's, I think, from the logo) a few weeks back on the bay. Deadstock, stuffed with original tissue, the band in shreds. It's a true straw 8-panel (maybe raffia, but strong like straw), with taped seams and tipped-in liner. I reblocked/resized it and added a leather sweat, and took it for a test drive today. Beautiful 11" diameter and great color. I love this cap.
