Stetson 100 unfinished brim vs my OR,s For now the little extra and the magnifient shape of the unfinished brim on the 100 has made it overtake my OR,s for favorite fit. Something about that bit extra brim width silhouette that frames ones face a bit nicer than my OR.s

Stetson Super Thin Ribbon

I have never really been a fan of the super thin ribbons, but that has now officially changed. This lid was up for auction on the Bay along with a Stratoliner that I had my sights set on. In the auction photo, it appeared that this hat might have a moth hole in the crown, and that it would probably be a beater. I figured I'd put it in the Classifieds on the Lounge to help pay for the Strat.

Once I got this lid, however, it was clear that the felt was in pristine condition -- really beautiful, soft, smooth felt. So, off it went to Optimo for a clean and block. Wow -- Optimo did a great job with the cleaning, and this lid is in super condition. I'd date it to around 1950, give or take a couple of years. I decided to do something different with the crease, so I did a diamond with a cross -- I think it suits this lid really well. This one's going to be brim down-all-around for use as an outdoors lid.

Many thanks, guys -- much appreciated. You know GWD, for "Think Tank" purposes, this lid is a reminder that, although "Royal Stetson" was the entry level for Stetson from the early/mid-40s onward, Royal Stetson felt from the 40's to mid 50's could really be very, very nice. :)

Cheers,
JtL

One of the great hat men of all time. He's often associated with the black homburg he wore with his morning suit when he was PM, but he had lots of big wide brimmed hats, mainly to protect his extremely fair skin from the sun.

Justdog, this hat looks EXACTLY like my "Sovereign Stetson 20", except for the liner: mine is the classic "round" "Stetson Twenty" logo in the middle of the crown.
Reading on further in this thread, I noted the discussion erupting about whether this hat was a "thin ribbon", an "OR" or not...so, it's just a cowboy hat, well darn, I'm mighty disappointed as...oh cheez... I still have my "100" (don't tell me that's not an OR-in fact it isn't, for one, no trolley and, of course, no mention of "OR" anywhere) and, anyway, I just ordered a silverbelly Akubra Campdraft from Ozzie for Christmas. So I still won't have a single "OR" hat, yet three looking mightily close to one. Go figure! :p

Well I knew it was not an OR as it was not labeled OR. It is western a term I prefer to Cowboy hat as that term has a history. There is very little different between my fifteen and an OR labeled hat. The 100 is in a design of its own, it is western but just a magnificently formed hat. I actually really like the unbound brims right now. Funny but the OR seem a little small in the brim for me now. It is an illusion though as the bound edge makes the brim look a bit smaller. Love them all so far though:D

You will have to post picks. Yes the label says they are OR but not sure if some were put out with the 15 label 20 label that are virtually the same hat design just not labled. The fun is in the pursuit, you think?

Well, here's a picture of my Stetson 20 hat, the bash of which has remained as shown on this picture because that's how I love it:

IMG_3516-1.jpg

It is said to be a "1950's hat" which I bought from US eBay; the original sweatband (which I replaced because it was tearing at the seam) was black leather, and it stated "Stetson Sovereign" as well as the original place of purchase: Muehlenberger's, Wichita Falls, Texas. I won't argue with that!

This is the hat I wear to work at least three times a week, if not more. Love it, fits perfectly too.

Yes that is pretty much the same form my 20 has no bound edge Stet 20 Sovereign. Silhouettes the face just great. Yep I see why you love it. Mine has a fair amount of stiffener and keeps its shape. 2 3/4 brim Pewter in color.
