The Bowler or Derby Hat

My understanding is that this is called a Square Crown Coke or Cambridge Bowler, it's the same style of hat that Oddjob wears in the James Bond movies, and similar to the style Jude Law wears in the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes film. I think Lock & Co still makes them even though they're not on the website.

I see. Thanks for info. When I watched Goldfinger, for the whole film I thought Oddjob was wearing a top hat, only later I read somewhere it was a bowler. It is an interesting hybrid

Anton Pichler Graz, Wool, measures 57.5 cm, 162 grams, couldn't find a paper label probably late 1920s to 1930s. I really like the liner design on this Stiff Felt.

Lighter color Stiff Felts are less common. This is a great looking Stiff Felt. Is there a paper label behind the sweatband?

My guess would be early 1900s. I am not sure anyone will be able to identify it without a company mark.

This is one I just had to have. What can you do? Negretti bowler. Negretti is a sheep-variety of the distant past, so a woolfelt. Steve (Mayserwegener) has one too (of course he does). Size 57 with the brim at 5cm and the crown at 12 cm. I comment now and again that I would buy a hat for the liner alone, but I rarely do. This is one of those cases though. It's colour purple makes me wonder if this might have been the pope's leisure hat. When it arrived there was so little life in it left that for a moment I thought it was a homburg. Steam brought it back, but it's not nearly as stiff as other bowlers I have. Interesting is the designation "Real Russia" on the sweatband. I suppose this refers to the leather that was used, but I'm not sure. There's a tiny hole in the front brim and some damage to the brim binding. Very interesting if only for historic reasons. Very old, but I'm not certain which decade exactly. No label inside the hat unfortunately.
