Yes, they came with the trousers and I'd just assumed they belonged together. The braces have a definite military look - very heavy leather, with buckles and hardware that are too heavy and functional for anything but military gear. I wonder what they are and how they came to be with the trousers...

I used the US WWII Rusette Service Shoe for many Adventures in theo Mountains. I a good, stylish Shoe for Marching, a bit too ligth for the Mountains. Now i use Swedish Army Boots. Those are perfect Mountain Boots, Enough room for insoles and socks , thick leather and a Rubber Sole. The Look is vintage enough.
Hobnail Boots with " Tricouni" Mountain Nails are also o.k. , a bit dangerous on smooth stone. I cannot pass through a railway station without accident

I have never seen leather trouser braces used in the military of the 20th Century. If Sweden used leather trousers braces, they would have been tan/brown ones. The Civil War and Wild West reenacting crowd seem to like them- reenactment vendors sell them.
I would imagine that they would be pretty uncomfortable and bulky when worn under shirts, sweaters, jackets, etc. or close to the body but I can see thet you're wearing yours over a couple of layers, including a sweater.

I like them, though.

Just showed it to my wife. Told her it was one of my favourite movies as a kid. Okay, so I realise now that it's a pretty silly film BUT, great stuff in it. Love the Power Wagon safari truck and the Series 1 Land Rover. Oh, and Ava Gardner's....uh....assets ;-)
More importantly, where can I find Clark Gable's high waisted pleated khaki trousers ('cuz your "pants" are worn under your trousers!)??? If no source available now, is there a pattern I could take down to a seamstress to have made??

Well spotted! Thank you, sir. I am with the US Forces here in the UK (for ten years now; have been accused of "going native"!) and have a US Post Box right here on base. So, one pair of cool trousers are on the way!

Hello to everyone, new guy here.
I found this site three days ago, and I have been hooked on this thread. I'm about 3/4ths of the way through, been following rabbit trails down all the links. my brain has been spinning.
Anyway, I love history and the cultures that surround a time period, I have been reenacting various time periods for 20 yrs.
I was in the Army for eight years, got out in'91 after Desert Storm, I was stationed at Bragg. I had a great time, traveled quite a few places, never made it to the far east, Australia or Antarctica. I always had that romantic notion in the back of my mind, that wanting to be that explorer of the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Growing up I always was fascinated by those explorers and of course Marlin Perkins and Jim.
I have some great pictures of me in the Lost city of Petra, I always seemed to dress in a 40's sort of style back then, even sorta IJ. It would have been cool to have had a Fedora back then, I did keep one of those crusher hats in my kit bag.
I have wanted to come across a vintage style forum forever, glad I found it.

That seems to be a common misconception around here. I believe the prohibition is against sending Private Messages until a certain post count is achieved. However, I’ve never had luck posting pictures using the board’s technology, and have always used an external host like Photobucket.

That's because there is no way to -host- pictures here (Think of the vast amount of server space and bandwidth the FL would have to maintain and pay for...boggling). You must use an external host.

I believe it's French, post-war('50s).
Part of a MC, (or motorised) oversuit(there are over-trousers, too).
They are nice- a fine, dense, almost canvas type cotton.
