Hello Loungers,
Finally got a new camera and still struggling with it:eusa_doh: ... I managed to shoot a few pics but please bear with me . Most of my gear is Safari/Adventure "inspired" rather than real vintage. The safari shirt is the one from Cabela's, the hat an Akubra "The Legend" I bought a few years ago on one of my trips Down Under in Sydney with an aftermarket puggaree.

The bullwhip is Australian as well from MurphyWhips and the captoe shoes are a brand called "Bond Street" made in India. The holster is a custom affair designed by yours truly and made by my friendly neighbourhood "leather man" and fits my Hi power.

Nels, that is a really classic set up, and I'll bet you get a lot of comments, especially in downtown Boston. You've probably been checked out by our pal Hemingway at one time or another! If you ever sojourn to the left coast, be sure to look me up; we'll do some interesting trips to Death Valley or that sort of place!

I would love to take the truck out west, there's some great places that it would be well suited for. Unfortunately, work keeps me pretty close to home so the wilds of New England will have to do.

It does get a lot of comments. That day in Boston was fun; really nice of that Quincy guy to let me park in front of his market The number of people who pass by there in a day is in the 10's of thousands and I did meet some interesting ones.

Great galloping gorillas...it's Jungle Larry!!!
Shortly after the opening of the Cedar Point park, his family moved to none other than Naples, Florida (just a short drive from where I live) and started Jungle Larry's Zoological Park. He's a local legend.

I remember watching him on the Captain Penny show!! WOW.

(Captain Penny was actually a sour old goat. He made a live appearance at the local fair one year and cussed us kids out when we asked for his autograph!)

We are proud of our britches!

We didn't set out to make an exact replica of a specific uniform trouser. "At the Front" and other companies do a great job of making uniforms that are reenactment grade pieces. We don't recommend our trousers be used for those wanting "exact" replicas as they are not historically accurate for those activities. Our website clearly states that.

Our goal was to take that cut, which is pretty cool and comfortable and make trousers that would appeal to a larger market segment who might like a style with a fuller cut and some historic significance.

Our trousers feature many construction improvements over the original designs and are built like nicer dress or suit trousers. Unlike department store khakis or cargos they can be altered for a better fit. Our fabrics were woven just for our products out of high end cotton twills.

Our market competition is more in the line of "Bills Khakis". (who also make an excellent product) Their khakis range from $97.50 to $165.00. So at a price of $87.50, I believe we're fairly priced in our market segment. Our large and growing list of satisfied customers agree.

To paraphrase, when I read the hype, 'Our (whatever) pays tribute to...' I reach for my mouse button... It usually means the whatever is nothing like the original source and is overpriced.

I understand your sentiment, however in regard to my products I must respectfully dispute it.

We didn't set out to make an "exact" replica of of a WWII uniform trouser. "At the Front" and other companies do an excellent job on reenactment grade uniforms. Our goal was to take those designs and create a cool and comfortable pair of trousers that would appeal to a larger segment of consumers. In fact we only offer one style that closely resembles the original M1942 trouser. The others are more mainstream.

So when we say "tribute" in our description we really do mean it... in a good way. We're not trying represent ourselves as a "replica" when we're not. If you read through our website fully, you'll see that explained more than once.

Is it so wrong to produce a nice, vintage style, full cut trouser, with a little military heritage attached to it that appeals to a broad range of customers? It's all about choice. Please don't trash them until you've tried them.

I find it interesting that Mr. Jerekson, the only person in this thread who actually owns a pair (several, in fact) loves them. Why discount a recommendation from a fellow lounger and a respected one, at that?

Check with Nick Charles (and Mojave Jack) about pre-existing groups.
We had all discussed it previously and I think NC has a working prototype site.

I have nothing invested in this argument, and nothing to add except an opinion. I've spent 35 years as a hard-core historicist reenactor (never in the WWII period, but for the issue at hand, that's irrelevant); that's where I'm coming from. So I think I have an idea about the mindset of the individual who wrote saying he bailed the moment he heard "tribute."

But you have been VERY clear about what you are doing; you know what you're doing, and you're making no bones about it. Whether there's a market for what you're doing is proved by your monthly credit/debit register .

Beside your forthright statement of intent....I particularly respect the manner in which you've defended yourself: you are a gentleman.

Now, if you'd just make some larger sizes....you might even have a customer in me

Safari Gear

Since I've posted my safari truck already, I might as well show some of the other gear I've collected. The Land Rover was what started all this, so in gathering accessories and clothing I've tried to find items that are either British (like the truck) or African (something that might have been bought on safari).

This vest is one of my recent eBay finds:

Judging by the label, this vest was made in Kenya. Anyone know anything about "Esquire Ltd. Nairobi"?
