It is for a children's charity. I sure hope it will give a lot of hope and a foundation for a good life for many children who otherwise would not have had a good chance to make a go in the world that seems to becoming progressively difficult for those who do not have an advantage from the beginning. And, if my purchaces from Amazon.com contributes in any way in aquiring, and thus contributing in this charity, then I will be more than happy to do so, as I am a parent, and I would hope for as many children to have the chances that my children have had.

It looks like Amazon will be posting pages (I hope!) for people to read. They bought it to drive traffic to their site I'm sure and for the publicity. It's hand-written and illustrated by Rowling. And yes, the proceeds are for her charity - what's so humbuggy about that? It was $4M because that's what the market bid. The book binding itself sure is cool!
