Johnny Depp slips completely into character in everything I've seen him in.

Yes, Johnny Depp, I mean, watch him in "Edward Scissorhands" and then years later in "Sweeney Todd" complete different roles! But it works just great. (Though, I don't want to talk about Jack Sparrow since I hate Pirates of the Carribean).

But usually, if the Actor isn't that big, I don't have a clue who is it anyway

But I think Robin Williams was kinda scary in Mrs Doubtfire, and in Jack as well

Just about every star in any HBO drama that I've seen is fantastic, with Deadwood (aside from that horribly tacked on ending to season 3) and 6 Feet Under being the two best shows I've ever watched. Of course, with any of these, the writing is a big part of it. The Joker couldn't be great if he had nothing good to say.

One that has always stood out in my mind is Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones in Lonesome Dove. Duvall also did it in Apocalypse Now and in The Great Santini, he was (Bull Meacham).

Some others were Will Smith in ALI, he totally went beyond himself in that role, it was like watching the Greatest himself, Jamie Fox in Ray, Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman in almost everything they have ever done.

Jim Carrey, for me, was The Riddler in Batman Forever. Same with the Truman Show. Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge!, as well.

Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan. I think he stole the show in Episode III. Jude Law in The Road to Perdition.

Another one Leonardo DiCaprio did well in and I think disappeared in his roll was as Howard Hughes in the Aviator, or for at matter Cate Blanchett as Kantharine Hepburn.

Sir Ian MCKellen as Gandalf. Also, Elija Wood as Frodo was great. I think he nailed the angst, weight and world wearyness that Frodo carried.
And speaking of wizards, the late Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore. Whenever I read the books all I picture is him and his soft voice & those blue eyes. He just melted into that role like nobody else could. Peter O'Toole I think would have made a better successor though. And speaking of O'Toole, Lawrence of Arabia is one of his masterpiece rolls that he got lost in.

Walter Matthau as Albert Einstein in I.Q. Although it was a comedy he played it well.

Lets see. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp & Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, especially that roll. I could never picture anybody else in that roll that could be able to do it justice.

Edward Norton as Eisenheim the Illusionist was a departure from other characters he has played and he pulled it off rather well.

Tim Roth in Rob Roy comes to mind. As does David Thewless as Remus Lupin in the Prisoner of Azkaban or as the Hospitaler in Kingdom of Heaven. And for that Matter Brendan Gleeson in KOH & The Order of the Phoenix disappeared into both roles with great abandon.

Those are a few that I could think of off the top of my noodle right now. As I come across more names I will be sure to post.

Have you seen him in Divorcing Jack? Outstanding. any time I think of him no, i keep picturing him saying "These are slightly flared!" in a horrified tone that only an old punk on the run from both Republicans and Loyalists can manage.... lol He was absolutely perfectly cast as Dan Starkey (casting was absolutely spot on throughout that entire film, actually).

I must be a little bit older than you cause i see Tim Curry in a corset in Rocky Horror Picture show!!! Hahaha....

Oh, me too, me too..... and while he may not be as, eh, svelte as he was in those days, he still has the voice.... and Frank's eyes.....

Alan Rickman in both "Galaxy Quest" and "Die Hard". As in - hang on a minute this is the chap who can break your heart in "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and then....???

And Christopher Eccleston in just about everything. He never seems to be the same man twice.

Of course Ralph Finnes as Voldemort but even more spooky as Amon Goeth.
Willem DeFoe as Schreck in Shadow of the Vampire. Another vampire was Brad Pitt as Louis in Interview with a Vampire. He carried all of Louis sorrow, regret & angst very well.

Gweneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors, you forget that she is even an American. Same with Angelin Jolie as Laura Croft, I couldn't picture anyone else as the Tomb Raider. they all manage to see the character and you forget the actor in the roll.

Gary Oldman played such a bad guy in the first few movies I saw him in, like Leon (The Professional) or Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg in 5th Element I probably would have shot on sight

But my number one is Jon Voight. I did a double take when I took my kids to see Holes in the theater - the “wait a minute - is that Jon Voight?” He’s one of my favorite actors and he does such a good job that he’s often so into a particular character I don’t even “see” him.

Someone above mentioned Kevin Spacey. If you haven’t seen The Ref, I’d say it’s a must… Or if you like Dennis Leary.
