Teddy Roosevelt Rough Rider Hat

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a copy of the hat Theodore Roosevelt wore in the Spanish American War? It has a brim pinned up on one side.

Check the campaign hat threads.I'm guessing it was an issue hat that he adjusted to suit himself.

Looks like a cross between a campaign hat & a slouch hat.
I doubt you'll find an exact copy anywhere. In the movie 'Night At The Museum' the costume dept. didn't do a good job on Robbin's hat in my opinion, they just pinned up the side of a cowboy hat...........Teddy's lids had much more character & individuality.

Teddy's hat looks like an issue hat that he pinned on one side. But it really is a crumpled mess showing that he obvious folded it numerous times and stuff in pockets, bags, and crumpled in his hand. The felt looks pretty thin, not at all like modern felt and certainly not like a modern cowboy hat.

I used an Akubra Snowy River for my M1904 Campaign hat.

Looks like a well worn slouch hat. Akubra has a great one I think is open crown so you can try to reproduce Ted's hat.

I'd suggest that Akubras brims are all far to wide and the felt to thick and stiff to reproduce TR's cover.

Well hell, ya' cain't take "as is" you gotta crush it, stomp it & pull it backways through a mule, and only then it may begin to approach TR's magnificent headwear !

But an Akubra won't have near the same smooth finish and thinner felt of an 1890s stetson!
