SHARP, Sharp, sharp!

Very nice lid and looks like a million on ya'!
I have three Adventurers from Hornets and am a big fan. I have been mulling over the idea of asking them to bind a (matching) brim on one for me and substitute the contrasting wide ribbon w/ a matching 1" (1" being the thinnest they offer) ribbon. This clinches it. Thanks!

Me too!

Hat Head said:
This hat is the bessemer color, but I've changed up the brightness and contrast of the photos to better show the crease/bash. It's really a dark charcoal, and I requested a black band and bound edge.

I received my Adventurer in Bessemer with black trimming just a few days ago!
I gave it a simple center dent creasing, just to start out, but I like it and think I will stick with that. I find the style of this hat to fit me very well, and the felt is smooth and holds the creasing very well. Compared to my Federation IV it is rather thin, though.

As much as I like the hat I do have a couple of comments about the finish:

  • The hat band don't cover the stitching from the sweatband
  • The edge binding is not too even
  • I'm not shure how to express this in english, but the thread form the sweatband seam is rubbing my forehead[huh]

Also the closing seam of the brim binding is off center.

With a little upgrading of the finish of the trimming, I think the Christy's Adventurer will be hard to beat in the hat for the money contest :)

(I think I should add, that my picture also shows the colour of the hat as too light. In real life the bessemer is just a shade off black)

Getting used to it

After wearing the hat out and about a couple of days this week, I am getting used the proportions. I can see what others have said about seeing more "contemporary" hats (shorter crown with taper) as "not quite right" after you've worn a taller crown.

re: christy's sweatband and stitching

Hi AEH,

I am in the process of considering Christys or Akubra. Your comments have had a great influence on my decision. I do not like the sweatband of the christy's. I have been in touch with hornetshats via email trying to resolve these issues. My hope that they will be able to alter those design flaws on order.

According to the photos on the website, it is only the adventurer that has the shoddy stitch work. the fedora style and knightsbridge look alright. There was a post on a thread here where someone purchased the fedora style- you can see the sweatband stitching under the ribbon but not as much.

Christy's hats in general look pretty good, I don't understand why they would put out a product that looks cheap.

Compared to the HJ- the christy's looks like a 50 pound hat:

yet, this thread from this site shows a hat that doesnt look toooo bad
http://indylounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fedora&action=print&thread=2995

granted, the ribbon work isnt great, but it doesnt look as bad as others.

shows the sweatband thread again below the ribbon/band

finally, http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=35918

this poster's hat looks pretty good, the band doesnt look nearly as bad as other shots. Based on the still cheap stitching holding the band, i doubt he changed the ribbon. so my conclusion is that either christy's has qc problems, or you need to be particular with them when ordering. If i do indeed order from them I will be sure to post the result.

I also just found this via google image search:
