So I got this email from Stetson today

Earlier this year, we re-launched the classic 1940s Stetson Stratoliner with a modern version of the renowned fur felt original. Check out the Stetson blog launched this month, for more on the history of the Stratoliner and what we did to the modern version to give it its own twist.

The modern Stratoliner Milan hat is hitting stores soon. What's your favorite vintage hat look? Leave us a comment on our Facebook page or email us at contest@stetson.com.

Has anyone else herd about a Straw Strat? Has anyone seen one? I know DelMonico's is getting the felt Strat in June but they never mentioned a Milan version.

This is pretty amazing.

It's a Stetson that's not a Stetson,
it's a Strat that's not a Strat, and
it's milan that's not milan.

LOL. Seems to me that one from Lefty encapsulates Stetson's entire history.

When is a 3X not like a 3X? when you have one from 1950 and one from 1970!

When is a Playboy not a Playboy?

When you have one from the 1940s, one from the 1950s and one from the 1960s! All entirely different hats.

It has been a Stetson staple that a model name or a quality claim change from decade to decade.

I just got an email from C&K, introducing the new Knapp-Felt Beaver 100. There was a photo attached:

This will make three times that we've seen this from Stetson.

A Modern Take on a Vintage Classic

In the 1940s, hat shops with their own shapers were common, meaning our hats would be shipped with an open crown that could be shaped to the buyer’s desires. With today’s online shopping market and decrease in specialty hat shops, hat makers are pre-shaping hats to popular styles that arrive ready for wear. The new Stratoliner, which takes cues from our 1940s original, now comes blocked with our teardrop crown........

This description almost seems like a cop out. They are saying that because people buy hats online today more than anything, they have to pre-crease the crown. I CAN understand that concept, but Ive said it numerous times, they can still have a pre-creased crown that stands at 5 inches and has no taper. Open crown would be nice, but if the Stetson higher ups do not want to accept that fact, that's fine. What it should read is......Introducing the New 1940's inspired Stetson Stratoliner. At 5 inches tall, Pre-Creased, the New Stratoliner is reminiscent of days gone by. Check out the Stetson that not only led a generations style, but also made history.

This white hat looks fine with this ribbon, I believe the dark ribbon looks better than light in white hats.
