This is what I came upon:
A small bag, more wide than tall, filled with 1lb of dried peas and one side coated with the extremly tacky "Seam Grip" by McNett
http://www.mcnett.com/Seam-Grip-Seam-Sealer-Outdoor-Repair-P133.aspx
It sits on the dashboard and, thanks to the Seamgrip, wont slide around.
The hat (not necessarily this one, I only happened to wear it when I decided to make this post) is thus fixed, and with the bag resting near the corner of the dashboard the curve of the brim is not stressed too much. Its the way I put to rest my Akubra or a Panama hat when driving the car.
