It seems that superheroes just prefer stingies; at least the coolest ones do!
The Fantastic Four all wore stingies. Ben Grimm prefered tyroleans and pork-pies:

Johhny storm and Reed Richards both wore stingies, too:

They may not always have gotten along well, but the FF had style!

Nick Fury wore a stingy, and Dum Dum Dugan wore a bowler with a pugaree--that takes self-confidence!

Here we see a young Reed Richards in a stingy, his new class-mate is bare-headed. The fellow without a hat will become Dr. Doom! Remember: good guys wear stingies!

And lest ye think super-heroes wore stingies only in the 1960's, take a gander at Clark Kent back in the early 1940's. His hat is definitely a stingy!

Loki, god of mischief and deception, wears a stingy-brim when he walks among the inhabitants of Midguard:

He also wears groovey shades to hide his shifty eyes!

Odin, father of the gods, wears a stately homburg. What else would the most powerfull being in the universe wear?

Like father, like son! Thor, in his mortal disguise, wears a homburg, too. Just like Daddy!
