My .02... it's time to market a Stetson 500 and a Stetson 1000. Quality would need to be good. No Xes please.

I am guessing you mean a dress hat. In westerns, Stetson does have a 1000, Diamante. No, 500 for western either, but there is a 100, El Presidente.

Call them up. If you have the money to spend they may make one for you. :)
Perhaps they are similar to Lucchese Boots Company, they will make whatever you want, the price just may be staggering. Haha!

Since the 100 was pure natural beaver.... then a 1000 would need to be kobe beaver.

B

Maybe a little hand kneading is what those modern Stetson beavers need.

WHW... right... I've seen the high end westerns up for sale on eBay. Neither would be up my alley. When it comes to Stetson, I am a diehard Philly fan. But I think the dollar moniker would probably have more trade meaning than Royal, Royal Deluxe, Excellent etc... which are known only to the diehards around this place.

Matt would have to be all over the QA team to get a Stetson 1000 to compete with an Optimo 1000 in the market.

My feeling is much like yours Alan, much as I love what Mr. Deckard has achieved with HatCo, I don't know if I'd buy a Stetson that wasn't actually made by Stetson in Philadelphia.

I saw some of the 50X Icon(s) of the 150th Anniversary collection. I saw one in black and one in silverbelly. They were both very nice but at $600, I left them right where I saw them. I felt for $600 I can get a nice custom hat that can be more personalized. These hats came in Stetson's 150th anniversary hat box, as do all their Spring 2015 and Fall 2015 hats.

I have still not seen a Paragon in any color, face to face, that is.

I have seen a few of the Straw Stetsons for spring, they look alright. I was able to look at a 1000X straw. It was well weaved, but there is so much shellac that I am afraid if it hits the ground it will crack the shellac and then break the straw.
I do not think I will be investing in said straw(s).

I tend to feel we have to at least be open to evaluate their efforts; everybody deserves an opportunity to redeem themselves. But if they blow it, this seems to be the era of corporate come upance (like Kodak, etc.) where the market changes don't tolerate corporate arrogance. JMO. I do like what We've been hearing about the new quality initiative.

I only wish that initiative would extend to us 7 7/8 or larger sizes. I always feel slightly insulted when I see that Hatco isn't willing to produce the larger sizes, except for a very few models and then only sporadically. Why is it that Borsalina can do it and they can't?

Mr. Clark,
I've got a custom made, reproduction of a "Boss of the Plains" size 7 3/8, I would be willing to sell if you are interested.

Hi TropicalBob! We on the outer limits of the bell curve should be accustomed to the snub. I also wear size 13 EEEE shoes, and it's the same situation on that end as well. To use the old saying; big feet, big shoes. I think that's the expression...

Over my life I have simply come to accept the fact that folks on the outer limits often are left out. Borsalino does make those sizes, but my experience has been that they don't make them well, or at least not in a generous/full size.

Time to re-visit the "haiku for big-headed hat wearers" thread!

Time to re-visit the "haiku for big-headed hat wearers" thread!

Feeling the pain also. With the exception of Campdrafts, and a pair of 65cm Stylemasters that Sam at EA convinced Akubra to build for me, I've given up on stock production hats, and going forward will give my money to Mike at NW and get a quality product at a fair price.

Maybe it's time for us to start a dedicated thread for the well endowed?

Obligatory comment to stay on topic....who would have thought that grown men would be so consumed with discussions involving the quality of beaver.

I did not see the Boss Raw Edge anywhere. I would love to get my hands on one of those. A couple of the hats in the Old West Collection look pretty cool.

All this talk of Boss Raw Edge got me thinking I may own one and didn't even know it. It had tiny sweat stitches (which have been removed and replaced w/a sweatband but the hat could still use a clean and block and a ribbon too.

Haha. I was going for a cool, old west stare type of face but you obviously saw right through that. Neat wedding/snow pics you had. Our winter has been lacking the usual snowfall but it's all good as long as we get some good rain.

Thanks, Monte. Indeed, Boston area has had a female canine of a winter. We've made it through to this side of it, though. Bring on the straws!

So the cheapest I have seen for a Paragon (in black) is ~$802 prior to taxes. I have yet to see one in a size 7 1/2, but $800 is great deal better than the $1200-$1500 I have seen banded about.
I said I would update when I learned something new about pricing, thus the posting. I wanted to stand behind my word.
