Stetson Saxon Fedora

I recently purchased a Stetson Saxon Fedora. This was my very first hat. To my dismay I was unsatisfied with the brim size (I like shorter brims). Now I am trying to sell it. It is in perfect condition and has never been worn. It is still in the original box with no tags. The size is 7 1/2. The price is posted for what I bought it for but I am accepting offers. Excuse the unsolicited advice, but you might want to hang on to that hat for a while. When I first bought a hat, a two-inch brim would have been the maximum I could have dealt with, but now, I want nothing narrower than 2.5 inches.

And I think that's been the experience of many Loungers.

So you might wish to keep the hat for six months to a year, just to see if your tastes change as you grow more comfortable in a hat.

I have to agree with the other posters. I started out with stingy brims, since the Trilby-style Fedoras are very trendy now. I ended up buying a Stetson Retro Panama Straw Fedora with a 2 1/2" brim and it is my favorite hat! The brim on the Saxon is starting to look a little, well---stingy! [huh]

I think I agree as well. I started out thinking that a 2" brim was perfect for me, and anything larger would look wrong. Now, I actually think 2.5" is around my ideal. However, I will wear a few brims slightly larger than 2.5", and I do have a few stingies at 2" and 1.75".

Tastes and comforts do change I suppose.

Seriously, think about hanging onto it. The trend in popular culture (by that I mean young people) right now is toward ultra stingy brims, but almost everybody looks better with a brim of two inches or more. Many do look great with the stingy brims, and you may be one of those, but most are better suited to wider brims. Post a pic of yourself wearing the hat, and we'll see if we agree with you.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice! I have actually had the hat for a couple months and have been thinking about the brim size. I think shorter brims make thinner people look better (same with skinny ties and slimmer suits). I am skinny and like the early 60's style anyway. If I don't sell the hat I won't be too upset but I have a feeling I'll be more content with something like a Stetson Mercer. Thanks again for your comments!

Good grief, the Mercer is practically a Fez!

Seriously, though, the Saxon is generally considered stingy. In particular, it may seem less wide when wearing it in the winter with a coat. I've noticed my wider brims seems less wide when worn over an overcoat with wide shoulders. If you still want to sell your Saxon, then you should list it in the Classifieds to garner more interest.

I'm a size 6 3/4 (54cm) and since it was a special order, they won't let me return it. I decided to go with a different color instead and had to place a second order because they "couldn't" cancel the first.
I guess my question is where would be the best place to sell a brand new Stetson Saxon? I paid $160 for it and would like to get as close to what I paid as possible

Welcome to the lounge! And congrats on your small hat size, you'll have a much easier time finding hats in your size than most if us.
You could post your hat in the classifieds here, eBay or etsy.
