I was salivating over this one, but alas, it was too small for my noggin . . .
It looks very much like my favorite Stetson Sovereign . . . Can't wait to see it when you get it.
Bogey, I've been looking at ebay for 7 1/8 fedoras and missed that one completely! What a great buy! I must not be using the search function properly or defining my search wide enough to get all fedoras/ hats etc in my search.
Nice to have another Texan that enjoys proper hats.
I was watching that one too, in fact I just looked at who got it before I logged on here. I thought it would go a lot higher, you got a heck of a deal if turns out as good as it looks. I got one of the Imperial Open Roads about 4 years ago, they are very nice and kinda rare, you don't see them very often. Give us some more pics when you get it.
I would like to thank all of you who posted for the hearty congratulations and well-wishing, it's one of those things that makes the lounge such a swell joint to be in.
Unfortunately, I have some very mixed feelings about the hat this time around.
The hat itself has small divots throughout from moths, the greatest concentration of which lie on the front brim.
Discoloration in a band about two inches thick above the ribbon wraps itself around the felt, turning the silverbelly into a light pinkish color.
The top of the hat has been unexplainably darkened where it was bashed, almost as if someone with dirty hands touched it to press it back into place and never bothered to clean it.
The rear of the sweatband has bubbling in the back.
All of these are fairly minor details, but I am very irked that I paid so much without knowing of these detractions. I still love the hat, but I am considering leaving negative feedback.
I had something similar happen to me. I paid about the same for a similarly-nice looking hat. A "few minor moth bites" turned out to be over two dozen, some fairly large, with discoloration of the felt as well. I contacted the seller, who offered to refund some money or to take it back, but reminded me that the shipping cost would not be refunded.
Since that would mean being out about $20 without a hat, I counter-offered with $10 for the hat, which was accepted.
