I have two Stetson hats that belonged to my grandfather who passed away in 1955. Both are Western styling. Can these be altered to a fedora style? One is a Stetson 100 in the original box and the other has a shipping box from Shudde Brothers in Houston, Texas where it was sent for cleaning, I assume. That one also has a ball point ink mark on it so I guess I probably made that in my younger days. But it would be a treat to wear one of his hats if possible.

Short answer is YES... you can make a fedora out of most any hat.

jd, I think Indycop and Carlisle Blues both had Major Moore do some great work on Stetsons recently. There is a thread about this not too far back. Carlisle had one re-blocked and shaped as a fedora and it is stunning.

Stetson 100

This is a rare hat that, if in very good condition, will fetch a pretty penny on Ebay. With the proceeds from such a sale, you should be able to purchase a nice, new or vintage, fedora that will be much more to your liking.

Take a look at the fedoras that are listed on various sites and at Optimo hats to get an idea of what you may want and the pricing for such a hat. You may get lucky with listing the Stetson 100 on this forum's classified section and may get your asking price without going to Ebay.
