Stetson Carson Silverbelly questions

Hello everybody!

Before I ask some questions, i figure i would introduce myself since i have just joined.

I'm from Norway, but moved to Florida 6 months ago. Mainly for school and some work experience afterwards. Going to stay here for aprox 3 years. After that i'm going wherever i get a good job offer:)

Now, in Norway, hats aren't really that popular, at least not "western looking hats", which means that i'm a real newbe when it comes to hats. Offcourse, i have had one "cowboy hat" made from some cheap wool and used it sometimes when working in a barn, but mainly i just jused a baseball cap for occasions like that.

In Florida i would like to get myself a nice hat that i can use mainly as a everyday hat. I am also trying to get my hands on a horse i can borrow from time to time to go horseback riding, but just for pure pleasure. Since i'm a student i dont want to spend more than 200 bucks on a hat, and here comes my questions:

At first i bought a "White Justin rodeo 3x wool felt" but i gave it back to the store since it was just too unpractical with a white hat and it looked a little but too much like a costume hat on me. Besides it was stiff and uncomfortable.

Now i am looking at two hats; "Stetson Carson Silverbelly 6x fur blend" and a "Stetson Marshall Ranch Tan 4x wool". I know that probably all of you guys would tell me that those two hats cant be compared but here's my concern. The silverbelly look really white on some pictures, and i dont wan't it to be white. I happen to love the hat "Raylan Givens wear in the show Justified" and would love to have a hat like that. Espesially the color.

-Does anyone of you guys have a silverbelly and can show me a picture where i can se the true color of the silverbelly?
-Is the silverbelly "silver-white" or does it look more like the Justified hat?
-Which of the wool and fur will be lightest, hold the shape best and be best in all kinds of weather use?

For those of you that have not seen Justified, i attach a link to a picture of how i want the hat color to look like

Seems to me I remember one of our members saying that the Stetson Carson is "like" the "Justified" hat but NOT the hat they actually use on set. That the actual hat is made for the show by a speciality hat maker.

As to what color silverbelly is, it isn't a single color, really. You can buy 5 different silverbelly Stetsons and all will be a different shade of beige/tan/offwhite. Silverbelly is more a material than a color in a lot of ways. But silverbelly is never white. It is a varied beige-like color that isn't quite as dark as a straight out tan.

The hat in the photo looks more silver belly. A fine Stetson can be yours for $200 or less, and you will enjoy it for a life time. I have a Stetson Gus and wear it often. I believe that 6X is becoming the standard there now, though I have a 4X and it's fine.

Silverbelly, as a color varies widely. It is also hard to photograph accurately, and the color seems to vary between photos of the same hat depending on the light.

I have an Stetson Open Road that is a very pale, light grey. You would never call it white, but it is light. This photo is a pretty good representation, but it is a little too light, if anything. Even within Stetson, the color will vary from hat to hat.

This Akubra is called silverbelly, but is much more tan in color than a lot of American hats called silverbelly. Even this photo makes it look a little grayer than it actually is. It is decidedly tan.

Silverbelly will vary between pale light grey and a grey/tan color. Silverbelly will have a bit of tan in it - it won't be a neutral gray. It will always be fairly light in color.

I'd suggest a fur felt hat over a wool felt. Fur felt is superior in almost every way. I am not familiar with the specific hats you mentioned.
