Nice looking OR is it rare to find an Aussie Stetson? Cool find!

I've never been able to locate one until now. Judging by the very few postings on this thread, it appears they are rather rare.

It is actually quite soft without being floppy. Not stiff at all.

Ok guys it s a bit small for me and I’m not interested in it as a collectible but yes there is an akubra/Stetson 3x on shopgoodwill.com right now but the 62.00 bid is a bit much for me. It’s size 57 so I think that’s 7 1/4”

The hat is an actual older hat under license but it appears the booklet and the bow are new... however it is tagged made in Sydney and everything else appears to be late 50’s or 60’s

While I'm sure you had good intentions with this post, listing an active auction it generally is frowned upon. (When I first joined I had the same the idea and wanted to be helpful too.) The thought is that there may be multiple members watching/bidding on this same item. Posting a link publicly only increases the competition and drives up the price. We're all part of TFL family, but often compete against one another for the same hats. A better way to handle this would be to send a private message to one or two people in that size that you think may be interested.

I believe another member shared these same sentiments with you a few days ago in another thread. While there technically isn't anything wrong nor anyone to prevent you from posting what you want (as long as it abides by the rules of conduct of the site owner(s)), I think it's poor form not to heed the advice of previous members.

You seem to be quite enthusiastic about hats, and I hope you stick around and continue to be a contributing member. We all have something to offer and we all can learn from one another. So poke around, read back through the threads, and get a feel for the forum. It's a great community quick to help and full of information.

Well no “rare” akubra stetson open road for me yet Did see paying over 60.00 for a hat that didn’t fit rare or not. Actually I’m not actually sure if it’s rare, just going off the ledora lounge opinions. Let you know if I find one, at least one that fits me

Old thread now, but I'd like to report that I have seen several Australian made Stetson Open Roads on Facebook Marketplace in the past few years, unfortunately never in my size (59). Still pretty hard to find; I had to pull the old trick of changing my Marketplace location to every city in Australia that I could think of (I live in Brisbane). I have, however, found a few in my wife's size, and decided to get her one for Christmas. I've seen people say that the last Stetsons made in Australia by Akubra would've been made in the 80s. However, the tag under the sweatband clearly dates it to 1999.

This is original and brand new in box. All OR's as were every hat then - open crown.

Spoke to a friend of the Keir's who said when Stetson stopped the lic agreement there was a huge community uproar. The block or last was "stolen" and it became the CD.

Hi I'm sorry if I'm resurrecting an old thread, and I have posted this hat elsewhere. This is my offering to the Akubra/stetson partnership. I've been trying to date it for some time, I believe it to be an earlyish 50's (1953/1954). I didn't think it was a Stratoliner at first as the ribbon is of a different design, but then I gave up looking and simply refer to it as "my hat" haha.

I'm open to corrections to anything I have mentioned. Very nice felt, lovely quality, and no labels or anything under the sweatband sadly.
