I'm going to part with my 7X Clear Beaver. This started life as a 7 1/4 size, but I sent it to Optimo and had it reblocked into a 7 3/8 Long Oval. As older hats due, it has tended to try to go back to a regular oval, so I would say it is between a regular oval and a long oval. This hat has the embroidered liner and I believe it was originally one of the employee retirement hats as it has the gentleman's name on the sweatband. Original box included...one of the straps has pulled out, as seen in the photos. All original...although I haven't worn it too much, the gold lettering has been wearing off. I just grabbed some quick pictures earlier today...sorry they are not better. I will also need to confirm the measurements, but the brim is 2.75 inches, the circumference is 23 inches, and the crown is 5 inches tall at the side with the current bash. 4 3/8 at the front, about 4 3/4 at the back of the crown. $225 shipped to US addresses. 1a.jpg 1b.jpg 1c.jpg 2a.jpg 2b.jpg 2c.jpg 3a.jpg 3b.jpg 3c.jpg 4a.jpg 4b.jpg

Any idea when this good looking lid was produced? The size tag in the photograph seems to point to circa late 1970's or 1960's. Is there a bit of stiffness with the brim? I have handled clear beaver 7X Stetson which can rival the best vintage Borsalino, having handled a Borsalino XXXXX, XXXX and also one labeled "MINK."

Pardon my opinion Single change your probably right about date on the Stetson but really is a moot point to compare it to any of the Borsalinos your referencing above as they are two entirely different animals .
If your already familiar with vintage 7x especially earlier than this vintage than yes the brim on this hat is most likely stiffer non the less this is a decent hat.

Between the tag and box, I have guessed the 1960s. No dates or anything under the sweatband. It is a fairly stiff brim.

Congrats on the ebay sale even though it could have been had here for much less. That was a nice hat.
