You buying?

When I was researching Amon Carter & his Shady Oak OR’s that he would trade out & present to dignitaries & others on his farm I probably went thru 90% of his papers & pictures now in possession of the University. Carter died in 1955. On occasion he could have planned a presentation & the recipients name could be embossed on the sweat, but I suspect those occasions are few & far between. In his papers I found lists of names & sometimes sizes that he gave hats to. And I came to realize in many cases those individuals would come to have museums of their own at the end of their careers. That’s one reason why the hats are so rare to begin with. You might find this thread interesting:

A Stetson Amon Carter Shady Oak Royal De Luxe gifted to Oliver Knight has surfaced. Knight was a Fort Worth newspaperman & in 1953 he wrote, Fort Worth: Outpost on the Trinity. Don’t know if Knight’s name was embossed by Carter before the presentation or by Knight sometime after. His name was not found to be included on Carter’s lists of gifted hats among his personal papers, but the book was published just a couple yrs before Carter died.

On another note I have one or two presentation Stetsons that probably date late 1960’s to 1970’s that I could find no info on the name. So I take it they could be Stetson retirees.

My goodness Jack !!!

First.... yes I am buying !!!

Second ... That Shady Oak is a dream hat of mine... and absolute dream.
Nothing I want more right now than one of those.
Those pictures have my heart pounding!

Third... If you eve get a chance to dig those hats out I would love to see some photos.
These personalized hats have become a bit of a passion.

There hasn’t been a Amon Carter Shady Oak come up at auction that I know of for at least a yr. I have a 3X & a RD.

I didn’t want to hijack your thread by introducing a 1960’s/1970’s era hat. I’ll post soon.

I know this is a stupid question ... but I have to ask...
Any interest in parting with one of them?

... I'll see myself out...

Maybe an interesting vintage trade.

I’ve always thought of this Stetson Sovereign with candy stripe liner as being made by Stevens but don’t know if it was under contract or after acquisition of manufacturing rights, circa 1971. I think Bowen has a candy stripe liner also. Blocking is a little more rounded & always reminded me of the Resistol Waco. I researched all combinations of Bill, William, Bever, & Beaver. I think I even tried Dever but drew a blank, not even an obit.
