This is the coolest "hat" I've added to my collection in quite a while.
Just got in from a big militaria show in Pomona CA.
Excuse the quality of the pics they were taken with my lap top.
This is a late war (WWII) swivel bale "Steel Pot" American helmet with a Korean war era liner.
I've always wanted one of these.
Nice clean helmet for a good price. Couldnt pass on it.

That's pretty cool, alright! Are you ever going to wear it? :D

Take it from me, having one on your head for any length of time can get to be a bit of a pain. The USAF was still using them through the '90s. The first time I was issued a kevlar helmet was in 2003 when I was deploying to Saudi.

This is from Korea in '86.

Here's one of my then-future wife modeling her combat gear, probably during the same exercise.

Fortunately, I never had to wear one in actual combat, just lots of exercises. Never tried to keep any of them, though.

Enjoy yours!

Cheers,
Tom

Ha!
Yeah it does seem to make one a bit top heavy.
Think I might just use it to cook eggs in like Van Johnson in "Battleground".

I always wondered why he didn't try to save the eggs rather than just put on the helmet and make a mess when the shots started flying. ha.

I bought a steel pot for collector's purposes, but when I tried it on I was blown away by how heavy they are. I can't imagine wearing one in combat conditions.

I always thought it was lighter than the K-pot.

Here's mine. It's a WW II Civil Defense helmet. Definitely heavy. What's amazing tho, is when you talk in this thing, it feels like you're in tunnel, the sound echoes around your head so much.
