Hey guys I gotta few questions here.

You see in Germany we have one uniform federal law which is equally effective in all states of Germany.

But in the lovely and wunderbar United States there are different laws in different states. (no irony or sarcasm in this sentence!)
So I´d like to know something.

Where is it legal to:
Smoke in Bars ect. (except Nevada wheres everything legal)
Drink booze in public (except Nevada wheres everything legal)
Smoke pot (except Nevada wheres everything legal)
Wheres no closing time (except Nevada wheres everything legal)

Please dont't take this as an affront against law I just wanna be informed when I goin to USA next year!!!!

Thanks alot for answers!

I don't believe it's legal anywhere in the US to consume (including smoking) or be in possession of marijuana. I understand that some states have attempted to decriminalize possession under a certain amount, but I'm sure you can still be arrested for visibly smoking it. I imagine the west coast is more lenient than the east or central. When I was in Seattle, the police didn't bother people smoking/selling dope as long as it remained in a park area near Pike's Place. That's only my observation, unfortunately, and not necessarily a fact.

I don't know about smoking in bars; that definitely depends on each State. Iowa does not have this pleasure, and our bars also having closing times. Again, I think it may be the West Coast (not Cali.) that smoking, and I have no idea about no closing time.

You may want to further define drinking in public. If you mean carrying an open container of alcohol down a random city sidewalk, I'm not sure that's legal anywhere in the States. However, I'm sure there are many locations around the US where you can drink within a limited proximity of bars and restaurants. This may be more of a City law more so than State law, although I'm sure there are State laws against it as well.

Hope this helps a little.

If you are looking for one place in the U.S. where you can do all of the above, the answer is nowhere. Not even Navada. Federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana.

Key West, FL allows open containers as long as they are not glass or aluminum cans. You can walk out of the bar with your preferred beverage as long as it's in a plastic cup. Not sure the closing time of the bars, but it is rather late. Also the Aquarium is way cool from a Lounger perspective. Constructed during the Great Depression by one of the alphabet soup agencies, two oval tanks are in the middle that you can walk right up too, one has rays and the other sharks. Around the perimeter are glass walled tanks. Very cool place. So is the pirate museum where you can see an original Jolly Roger.

Why don't you go to Utah where you can't do anything but take a break from smoking, drinking and getting high? They have skiing, mountains, deserts, white water rafting, fishing, Dinosaur National Monument, Anasazi (Native American) ruins, and so on. And if you get bored with all that, Nevada is next door.

I didn't think you'd be thrilled at the idea of going to Utah. ;) Kidding aside, laws about drinking and smoking can vary from city to city. Closing times are just local custom in some places.

Depending on the state liquor law, closing times will vary to whenever they feel like it, to whenever it is illegal to sell alcohol. Some states make it illegal to sell alcohol between certain hours (2AM-6AM for instance.) In those states that are lax, they'll usually stay open as long as there are customers.

In Nevada for instance, you can buy liquor 24/7, and be publicly intoxicated.

Some states require all alcohol to be purchased from a liquor store, some states allow beer and wine in grocery stores (Oregon), others sell it all (California)

Also a fun tidbit, in some states, it is not illegal for those under 21 to drink beer or wine. However, it must be within a private dwelling and provided by the minor's parents.

That can happen anywhere. It's best to just say no thanks or that you aren't interested.

I think there are some threads in the Steamer Trunk section about different places in the U.S.

so funny. I guess the reason they can do all above is why they cannot have guns.

Well, not too sure if this is the best time to be starting a business but hope all is well. I visited Germany last year and loved it. We have several Germans in our family. Such a clean place.
