Square fingernails

I dated my nail tech for about a year. He hated working on my hands, but loved the look. It's a really long story. I've had that same conversation as well, and then they still try and give me square.

Ultimately, he admitted the square took about a fourth of the time really shaping ovals does and that's why they pushed them.

When I keep my nails shorter (to the tips of the fingers) I do the squoval. Once they hit long length, mainly wintertime, I go back to ovals. If I get them done, I get ovals no matter what, but my length I have now makes them look shorter.

As to length, I have a "sport" length and when I ask for it, I don't have the length problem, just the shaping.

I mostly keep them short since I am a transcriptionist and they are rounded, but when I let them grow i like them oval and semi-pointed. Now this makes me want to grow them again!

Square or otherwise, I admire long (well... not too long  ) fingernails on other ladies.

For me though, its short and sweet! :)

Long fingernails are just not me. [huh]

Those are really long Inky. Impractical for my lifestyle, working around kids. Also, getting my contacts in would be a pain in the rear.lol

yep, those were pretty long! now they are short again, i go through phases ;)

as long as i can keep my transcribing quota up then it's okay, when they get about that long i get too slow to type and cut them off for a few months.

That lady in that picture doesn't have nails like that anymore, she was in a car accident and they all got broken off. I think she had them insured, too.

I have just finished my training as a nail technician here in Australia, although, now that I am returning to the US, that is not my chosen career (long story).

Square nails are easier and faster. They also, supposedly, are stronger and less likely to break, although I am not sure I believe that.
The nail industry is like any fashin industry. Clients and technicians look for something new, something different. There are intense nail competitions which also drive the industry. What the judges look for affects what is taught in courses, etc, even when it often has little or nothing to do with what is practical, attractive, etc on clients. A large part of the competitions is showing mastery of the medium of acrylic and balance of a nail, which requires a certain length. It is interesting, if not particularly relevant to real life.

I have a completely different opinion of acrylic nails and nail fashion, etc now that I have finished my courses and worked in this industry for a bit.

Interesting (and not surprising). I think that many consumer choices are driven this way.

And per the lady in black, those world record nails are really creepy! Like some kind of nightmarish alien crossbreed.

I used to do the squoval shape. Then I decided to make my nails taper to a sort of rounded point, and realized that my nails grow WAY longer this way because, I presume, there are no "sides" to catch on things.

I saw her as a kid, and several others like this. I had one question on the matter that's never gone away. Of course, you can't ask and you certainly can't get an answer.

On the linked interview, Ellen asks her that question and she answers. ;)
