Spectator Shoes

Spectacular!

Not sure of the age on these rascals...but..on the sole up near the heel, it says something we have never had on any of our Footjoy shoes before. It says, Footjoy Reg U.S.Pat.OFF. by Field and Flint Co. I know the basic History of Footjoy and am very aware of the company Field and Flint but have not observed that on any Footjoys before. Now I am have to wonder how old these actually are? The weigh a lot for sure.

Oh yes these Footjoys also are not black and grey...nope...they are super dark blue and grey! I could use a black polish, but we have a few blue cream paste and shine wax in different blue colors, I will keep them blue. Pictures of the shoes in a few more days, I am working on them at present to condition and then on the stretchers a bit to help make them more roomy for Daniel to wear.

Well I want to make mention I am requesting of the "staff" here on the lounge to have me become a vendor...as I have done so much on shoes and boots and consider myself a pro. So stretching, conditioning, polishing and installing a full protective sole cover is what I am going to be offering...I will show a display of what I can do and will keep the cost way down to make it all affordable. It will be FUN!

After yearning for a pair of spectator/correspondents to wear to all the birthday parties and all the Sunday afternoon church socials
that kept coming up, AND missing out every time I found some that i liked. Then after finally scoring a pair of Paul Fredrick "Italian Two Tone Cap Toe"
a couple of years ago, I have no place to go!

I hear you.
But the way I understand "a gentleman's guide to dressing" is to have the appropriate dress, and "undress" for every event in one's repertoire.
It would be, among other things, inappropriate to fling them on to roll out the recycle bins, even though that may look like a sporting event at times.
Something will come up, and then I'll be glad I have them.

Beautiful shoes and, yes, that has happened to me. I finally by some article of clothing that fits a few types of events and, then, the opportunity to wear the items doesn't arise. Even worse, I work from home now and basically 90% of my closet goes unused. I just put on the same few pairs of chinos or jeans, a blue or white oxford shirt and sweater or sweatshirt everyday and sit at my computer while the rest of my closet sits undisturbed. I know some guys who work from home who get dressed up like they are going out, kudos to them, but I can't do it, it just doesn't feel right to me.

Don't know that any of these pics have made it onto the Lounge proper yet, but SJC (simonjamescathcart.com) is releasing a couple different pairs of bench made, goodyear welted, authentically styled shoes made in Northampton. A number of knowledgeable members of this very TFL community have had a hand in bringing these to market. Here is a pair of the one piece 20's/30's canvas and leather specs in acorn and canvas. There are also sleek, tarsal-strapped Balmoral boots for the taking. Right now a few pairs of each style are going for a steal before the whole lot hit kickstarter.

I posted these shoes in the vintage shoe thread earlier today and have been reviewing some of the marvelous pairs of vintage shoes on this thread this evening. Ahh, the grand shoes. Even the Simon James Cathcart shoes have my heart beating faster. I thought I should cross post so that my new spectators could humbly join the dynamite shoes on this thread.

On with the post....
Earlier today I cleaned up a pair of Bostonian shoes. This is my first pair of Bstonians with the Flexmore Process.

I gently wear my older shoes. I will visit my local cobbler to have a look at the heel and to apply sole protectors. After the above pics the shoes have been treated with Venetian and then Allen Edmonds shoe conditioner. A buff with a brush in-between removes any residue/particulates. The shoe leather is much more supple. Shoe trees remain in them tip the cobbler gets them in his hands.

Looking forward to some acorn/white shoe time. I am glad I can contribute to the gorgeous shoes in this long thread.

I'll see how they look in person and decide on the oxblood. They all look great on my screen! Now all I need is for him to make some flannel trousers and I'll be set.

I really fancied the burgundy (goes with so much!), but the acorn is just... Oh, *my*. I'm also getting the burgundy engineers. Eventually, though, I want all three in all the options!

You are right Edward, I can't find a photo, full on, of a pair of oxblood & cream correspondence shoes that I have, but you can see them on the left in my shoe case. They will go with any brown hues from sandy to chocolate. They are perfect with grey, they are even acceptable with darker blues, like navy. And of course if you have anything dark red or maroon they hit the mark.

Ya'll are driving me crazy with these shoes, my only issue is I can not wear shoes with thin umm "collars" in the back, they have to have some sort of padding for want of a better word. If the material is too thin it scrapes the back of my heels & Achilles tendon something fierce, my foot doc would have my arse especially with my diabetes.

It's not the best of photos, the original purpose was to show somebody the shoe case, they had never heard of such a thing. But yes, oxblood is a rich deep maroon colour. Did you miss this photo in the "What Hat Thread?" You can see how well they go with a grey suit.

Ya'll are driving me crazy with these shoes, my only issue is I can not wear shoes with thin umm "collars" in the back, they have to have some sort of padding for want of a better word. ha! I'm loving the Brit expression, arse! As a small boy, growing up in the post war austerity, my mother would buy my shoes a half size too big, and I was expected to take good care that they lasted, she also bought a heel insert. It was just like an over-sized medical sticking plaster, the sort that you would place on a cut to stop it bleeding. A peel-off exposed a sticky side which went against the inner part of the heel. They prevented the shoe from rubbing against the skin of the heel and how well they worked too. You could see if something similar would work for you. Other than that, the best way is to have your shoes hand made, expensive? Maybe, but hand made shoes last, and with care, remain as good as new.

You won't be disappointed, in fact you will probably find them very addictive, so keep a firm grip and let your head rule your wallet, not your heart.
