Songs That Mention Hats

"There was Uncle Dave Macon his gold tooth and plug-hat

Cowboy Copas singing "Tragic Romance"

Signed Sealed and Delivered with Sam and Kirk McGee

And the master of ceremony was Mr. George D. Hays"

Wishing Well
by Gary Moore (RIP)

Take off your hat, kick off your shoes.
You know you ain't goin' anywhere.
Spend all your time singin' your blues.
You know you ain't goin' anywhere.
You've always been a good friend of mine,
But you always say farewell.
And the only time that you're satisfied,
Is with your feet in the wishing well.

My Girl Don't Like My Cowboy Hat
Hank Williams Jr.

My girl don't like my cowboy hat
She says that it's so yucky
My girl don't like my cowboy hat
But she don't know how lucky
She is to have a man like me
To take her to the disco
When I walk in they say Hey Jim
Where's Hopalong and Cisco?

A Whole Lot Of Hank
by Hank Williams Jr.

I'm an outlaw from the south got country in my mouth
I'm lookin' for good lovin' all the time
I got outlaw in my bones and Jim Beam in a lot of my songs
There's a little bit of Cherokee Indian in my eyes
There's a whole lot Hank underneath this hat of mine

It was Stagger Lee and Billy
Two men who gambled late
Stagger Lee threw seven
Billy swore that he threw eight
Stagger Lee (oh Stagger Lee) told Billy, (oh Stagger Lee)
I can't (oh Stagger Lee) let you go with that (oh Stagger Lee)
You have won all (oh Stagger Lee) my money and my brand new (oh Stagger Lee)

High hats and narrow collars, white spats and lots of dollars
Spending every dime for a wonderful time

(I realize the original would probably be more popular here, but there's always been something haunting and surreal about Taco's '80s cover. It creeped me out as a kid, but now it's kind of comforting.)

"Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone"

''Rain drippin' off the brim of my hat
It sure is cold today
And here I am walkin' down 66
Wish she hadn't done me that way''

Sometimes something comes along and triggers a memory from the depths of the mind.
It's 1989 I'm 10 years old,I've been looking through my Dads records. Not in the mood for CCR, or Skynyrd, I listened to Bob Seger yesterday, I'm thinking country today. Waylon? Nah, maybe Merle, not him either, it's down to Willie and Hank Jr. Then I spot a record I hadn't listened to yet, a smiling black fella in a yellow turtleneck. I put on the big earmuff hi-fi headphones, plug in the cord, drop the needle....ended up listening to 4 Charlie Pride albums in a row. Thanks for posting that.
