Jings. I've pulled the Irvin out this week to give it an airing as the temperature's beginning to drop sharply at night.

I will trade you three weeks of my 'dreich and overcast' for three of your 'balmy and sunny'.
If by "balmy" you mean somewhere around 20C, fine!
But much higher temperatures than that have been (and are being) rightly conplained about on both sides of the Atlantic. Don't forget, bearing in mind the purpose of the FL and the interests of its members, that high temperatures are inimical to traditional/classical dressing, and that one can do NOTHING about thermal comfort under those circumstances.

On Labour Day it was 33C. Today, it's 15C and drizzling. I'll take 15C over 33C anytime! Light coat, fedora and scarf weather.

It's weird: I've been here in the jungle since 1987, but every year at this time I start thinking about woolen clothing. I just ordered a tweed 8-piece cap from Wales. I'm like a squirrel that has to start gathering nuts or something. I've still got a whole walk-in cedar closet full of overcoats, Harris Tweeds (I bought two just last year) and corduroys, and cabinets full of sweaters. Is this the state of denial?

More pertinently, how much wear is this wardrobe getting? I can't see much call for Harris tweed in Florida, though you must cut a dash when you pull it on.

Sloan, you think I haven't heard this before?!! That's the point -- I can't help it. And yes, I think I do look rather fine during the tolerable months.
