Some hats I've been meaning to post on.... (Royal DeLuxe; Open Road, Dobbs - mmmm)

I have been putting this off for ages.... I dunno, I just wear and enjoy my hats and sometimes forget that it's fun - and good - to share the enjoyment like this....

Here are some acquisitions and histories. All are from the Bay area....

First, just off the plane to me in good ole Ireland:

(1) Stetson, Royal DeLuxe. Just got it over the last few days. Got it from a guy who has handled hat sales for years and he says it is the largest he (*chapeauboy*) has handled. It is a (wait for it JP, Col. Zemke, Scotrace et al) a 7 3/4 LO. Still a tad too tight so I have it "on the rack" (the stretcher).... Let the pictures speak....

Comments on this liner please....

Mr. Deckard, a nice lil' reverse taper goin' on jus' for you!

Here are some older less suitable hats that I acquired pre-FL (you know the drill - my hat palate has since become much more educated).

(2) Now onto the Dobbs. Currently my favorite all occassion hat. This hat has a wonderful color to it. It is kinda grey, olive green, brown even, depending on the light. I bought it as a beater/rough-wearer. It is a 7 3/4. Well it was really windy when I first wore it and it blew right of my head and a darn car drove over it - casuall as you like - and then took over. I had grave reservations about the hat as it had an awful taper looking straight on at it with a center dent. Well, I thought the hat was not for me but one day after that I worked up the courage to really steam the bejaysus outa it and put in my signature diamond bash and boy did it work a treat. Take a look!

(3) Here is my Open Road - lovely hat; for years too small at a 7 1/2. Laterly I decided - I'm hardly gunna get for it what I paid for it and it IS a nice hat so just stretch it baby! Well I did and I just love the hat. Too flamboyant for me to wear regularly I find. What are your thoughts on this...?

Hello Dean,

I thought I was a real wide boy (i..e wide ribbon boy). The Dobbs is the first (non-OR) hat that convinced me othrwise.

Please, go figure....

Mr H, your lids have great character, they look like the hats you see in Golden Era movies worn by the likes of Jimmy Stewart - they've got that lived-in, hand-bashed individual look, but don't look worn or battered. They just look cool, I guess maybe 'authetic' is the word I'm looking for. As has been mentioned on the Lounge before (by Mr Deckard I think), sometimes hats today look too perfect. Yours look like the real deal (well of course they are! ), but I mean they look like hats that are part of someone's life - your life!

(Sorry, not really making much sense today, hope you catch what I'm trying to say . . . )

My favorite is the Dobbs. It looks like a very comfortable hat to wear.

Thanks, I was going to sell it last year but I held onto it. The felt is great and it looks really nice after a naphta bath.

Clarification:

I was referring to the stacked hats.

The midnight blue is a lovely Vintage Sillouette classic that Art made for me. The boxes are for the good hats.
