Funny how perceptions change isn't it? I buy 90% of my clothes online now, too - shirts, the odd pair of trosuers and such I can still find in selected birck and mortar suppliers, but mostly I shop online. I'd actually prefer to be able to go to a shop more often, but it's just not so easy to find what I want to wear that way.

I'd buy more in brick stores if they carried my sizes. That's the problem with many now - only carry the most commons sizes and that does not include me...I'd rather go shopping and get out that just click click click...

I too purchase the majority of my clothes online. Last week, I walked into a small local shop to purchase some dress shirts for work. In order to assist me in finding the right size, the saleswoman offered to measure me. I told her that would not be necessary and proceeded to rattle off the exact dimensions that I seek in shirts. She was dumbfounded. 10 years ago, I had no idea about my preferred dimensions and I made my purchase decisions by trying things on or, in the rare case of online purchases, by using my most commonly purchased sizing. Today, I am reluctant to purchase from an online store that does not post dimensions and, if a particular store does not include the information, I will search for the product on other websites that include dimensions. Its a brave new world.

I am with you on this one, Edward! (Hello there, by the way). Online is a very fantastic way to find what you do not see in any brick and mortar store. You learn also how to judge sizing on things after asking as many questions as you can about what item of interest you are looking at and then making a comparison to what you know does fit well. Helps cut out potential problems later that could surface regarding fit and also quality.


Now to toss this TIP in for some of you single Gents about meeting a Gal for the first time...just be yourself. Period. If you are not totally yourself and meet someone as such, it will go no where really fast. However an interesting but almost fool proof way to gain some Gal's attention, have a $100.00 bill in your hand, act like you are picking it up from the floor or ground and ask if they dropped it and then just keep talking. If they are of interest to you past the first few moments then you can see how honest they are and they will tell you they did not drop that moolah! If they are going try to take your hundred bucks, you need to make your move to get away and tell that person, see ya later alligator! My Husband shared that about a good pick up line many years ago...he did not meet me that way, but I am sure it would have been a good way to have started a conversation. He says it worked for him a few dozen times or so when he was younger before we met up and married.

I cannot afford the local stores. A pair of 501s is about 140 USD. All I do do is buy socks and underwear at H&M. Everything else is online or when I'm traveling. Damn CHF.

Jinkies! That's a lot. I remember bac in the eighties when a pair of 501s wasGBP50 in the UK - probably the equivalent of GBP150 now. Last I looked, though, you could pick up the standard issue 501s here for about GBP25; the LVC stuff is about ten times that(!).

Levi's are crazy costly in Europe, at least everywhere I've been to. I usually get 'em on sale...

It's funny, I was having this very conversation the other day vis online shopping. I do most online now, too. And that's not motivated by a drive to save a buck, but because of the quality of goods, primarily.

In other words, I could walk into, let's say, a Macy's, and drop $500 on a leather jacket that is made from 14 pieces of some poor quality and highly processed/corrected hide, with polyester lining, OR I can spend that same $500 (or more) online for something that is easily 4x the quality. Or, to put it another way; I don't retreat online to find the Macy's jacket at a cheaper price, I do so to find a far better jacket at the same price, or I'll even spend more money.

I can find Dockers in every store in town, but Bill's Khakis? Where in town will I find an Akubra hat? I could go on, but I think we all know how this works. The artisan fled to the online world from the massive retailer/mega-corp. I simply followed him there to do my shopping.

I don't know what it is about Levi 501s but we used to buy them at the local farm store circa 1985 for $14.99, $12.99 when "on sale." The were made in the US. About two weeks ago, I went to buy some more. Now they are $68.99, made in Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Haiti ,and Poland. Were talking about at minimum a 450% increase and a decrease in quality as fit and qualit of the denim is all over the place depending on where they come from.
