Good evening Shipmates,
Just wanted to take a minute of your time to enquire if anyone had any information on the sizing for the Ralph Edwards G-1 jackets, specifically those produced in the 1970s. Do they run small or are they normal fit? I am looking at a Size 46 issue jacket. Just want to know if it will be a traditional snug fit or is it more loose fitting? Thank you in advance for your advice and counsel.

Hi Mike,
I recently picked up a 1977 E series Ralph Edwards in cowhide with a dynal collar which is an issue size 46" reg and I would say it was approximately true to size fit.
I'm not sure whether the sizing changes depending on the contract year to which RE supplied G1s to the Navy as some will be in goat and others in cow depending on the year of issue i'm guessing.

Here are the measurements of my 1977 RE size 46" reg.

24 inch, 61 cms (underarm to underarm, measured at Front)
19.5 inch, 49 cms (underarm to cuff, measured at Front)
26 inch, 66 cms (shoulder to cuff, measured at Front)
19 inch, 48 cms (across bottom hem, measured at leather/cotton waistband seam)
19.5 inch, 50 cms (shoulder to shoulder, measured at Back)
27 inch, 68 cms (length, excluding collar, measured at Front)
25 inch, 63 cms (length, excluding collar, measured at Back)

When i'm looking for a vintage G1 or a repro A2/G1, I tend to find that if the jacket when laid flat, has a front pit to pit measurement of 24 inches then the jacket will pretty much fit everywhere else.

Hope that helps you out somewhat.

I have a 1962 Ralph Edwards B model G-1 tagged size 46 and IMO it fits true to size. Not sure if their patterns changed over the years.
