I'm SURE there was a thread on this somewhere, but for the life of me, I can't find it. I've scoured the search-function of every likely board and came up with zilch.

Anyway, this is the thread for showing off your vintage, or antique sewing machines! I know there's a lot of people here who sew, so this ought to be interesting.

Here are mine:

MACHINE: 1936 Singer 128 VS portable model, complete with toolbox

MACHINE: 1945 Singer Model 15 with Indian Star decal. (recently sold!)

MACHINE: Singer 99k from 1950. Inherited from my grandmother

MACHINE: German-made Wertheim 'PLANET' VS manual machine. Currently being restored. From ca. 1920.

What a beauty! love those machines. I am working in a 50's model. Made many mistakes while cleaning it but I put together well.

In my experience, old sewing machines are pretty forgiving of mistakes

I can't post pics at the moment as I'm out of the house but I own a couple of nice vintage sewing machines, a Singer 201k and a 1960s Universal by Brother. Both have external electric motors are excellent workhorses - straight stitch forward and reverse - all I need for lightweight leather work.

Here's the Singer machine inherited from aur auntie. According to serial number it was manufactured in 1913. It was stored a year or two in the shed and now it's back in the house.

Also found a drawer from it in the attic, cleaned it all yesterday and found out that without functional check spring
it will not work. Also the shuttle carrier has been repaired, but it should be ok.

You can always tell a shuttle bobbin just by the racket that it makes when it's running. Later drop in bobbin race's also made a noise, it's because they oscillate, later models had a rotating race and were, therefore, much quieter. My wife collects antique sewing machines, I will show you a few, the picture of the treadle does have a machine but there's so much on the top of it that I just couldn't be bothered to shift it all. By way of contrast I have included the sewing machine and overlocker that she uses for most of her work, although all the antique machines are in good working order. She has so many that we have had special shelves built just to display them.

i will try to get my girls to take a picture of my cellar, and try to post it, have 300 sewing machines in my basement for parts, been fixing machines for nearly four decades. my oldest working machine is my 1875 wanzer made in HAMILTON ONT CANADA. 59LARK.
