I think they're from the 50s, but I'm nott too sure. I found a pic that shows somehting of the straps.

We'll find out a bit more about it soon enough! I went ahead and ordered one, so I'll post a review as soon as it arrives.

I just picked up one of these off ebay for 45$...

Best of all, this ruck works. Its not for looks. Its antiquated kit I use and prefer over modern kit...Its been a constantly changing project and some features have changed...

Very, very nice find, Gorik!!!!!! These are not a common find here in the states. It appears to be a French military, Troupe Aero-Portee (TAP) Mle 1952 rucksac! These did see service in Algerie and later, but they were not too popular with the troops. They did not like the lower aluminum curved back support. Apparently they felt it interfered with equipment on their belts and was a bit uncomfortable on a long North African march. The TAP 1950 sac from the Indochine war was more popular. I believe both of these models were produced way into the 1960's. Yours should be dated inside the front flap, with a maker's mark.

Thanks for all the information Renault. I looked inside the front flap but there's no maker's mark to be found, probably it would be a civilian model?

Here's my c1938 Russian military rucksack, dont think it's ever been used as internally there is no sign of wear, externally there's the odd mark , I just needed to 'feed' the leather before I could use it as it had dried out a bit;

Do frame backpacks count as vintage? They have a decidedly old-fashioned nature to them, given that internal frame backpacks have all but taken over the market. Jansport's re-issue of the D2 is an example of how the retro market is making a comeback:

I received mine on Thursday and carrying a heavy load is very practical with it. I portaged home a week's worth of groceries with no problems!
