A sweater from 1930s instructions in bamboo/wool. So very soft (I'm almost done with a cardigan from the same type).

Very nice! Like the tie detail and the cullottes and shoes show it off perfectly.

How did you find the tension working with bamboo/wool? I'm curious as I've not used it before myself.

Thank you! It was very easy. I haven't knitted much in years and I had no problem picking it back up and staying even.

ColeV48, what I meant was did having bamboo in the mix affect the size the jumper came out?

I made a cotton jumper from a pattern that was meant for wool (further back in this thread - a pistachio green one) and although my tension was as the pattern, I forgot to allow for the non-stretchiness of the cotton, so it came out bigger! Wondering about the bamboo/wool mix as it sounds like a nice yarn to work with.

I finished the 1930s bed jacket I posted about above. It's cozy and slouchy and has a new home at my office.

All of you have been so productive! I'm sharing a failure because to warn off people. So far, I have frogged every project I've tried to make from "Knitting Fashions from the 1940s". These patterns don't contain finished garment measurement nor schematics. The each garment shows a picture of the original pattern model and a "rewritten for modern tastes" model. Since they look so big and slouchy, I started off with a size smaller than the pattern recommended. It still came out huge. The biggest problem is with the armscye. It's so low, even after I modifed it, that it looks like a batwing sleeve. I think I'll give up on this book altogether.

When I knitted my yellow cotton jumper (which actually called for 2 ply wool) I went down a size smaller in the needles.... would be interested to know about the bamboo/wool mix yarn also as my grannie bought me back some from Canada years ago, but i have been too scared to use it!

It didn't feel any different in terms of stretchiness (just softer). I made up the correct size for me and it came out perfectly. No measurements to compare to, but it fits correctly. We'll see how the cardigan comes out, I suppose!

The Vista from Beehive? It was incredibly easy- once you learn the basic repeat for making the stripe you don't have to think much!

Thank you all!!! Mother likes this best out of all her knitting for me as yet.

Since there yarn left, I've been thinking to also have a matching jacket made, but I am undecided upon the design. Perhaps you can help? Pics/patterns/drawings are great for me, I need visual clues So far I've been thinking along the lines of open front jacket to reach just a bit below the skirt pocket, with flared body and sleeves. Because the dress looks somewhat nautical to me I wanted to go with that feeling and have a big sailor collar. I also wanted to incorporate some blue stripes in the collar and the ends of the sleeves and edge of jacket. That is, provided I can find some complimenting yarn, a blue like the buckle/buttons. What do you ladies think?

I think a hip length edge to edge swing coat (exactly what you seem to have in mind) would be good.

Not sure about what sort of collar.... perhaps a stand up sort? I wouldn't go for too much blue - it's only a tiny accent currently on the dress and I think too much would detract from the simplicity of the current colour ratio which really makes the blue pop. You wouldn't want to lose that.

I think I will have difficulties in finding the right yarn in blue...I could stay just with the pink I guess, wouldn't that be boring though?

I'm with Miss Sis, blue yarn effects may be too much of a good thing.

What about a pink pocket on the jacket with the two pretty blue buttons to mimic the details on the dress?
