1940s beach hat?

I need a hat to wear to the beach. I'd love to find something with a '40s feel to it, but I'm having a hard time finding images of women at the beach wearing hats from that era. Any suggestions for a hat that would look cute with a chocolate brown halter-style bikini with white polka dots? Vintage or VI makes no difference to me. Thanks!

This hat is driving me nuts. The label started in 1934 but is this cloche hat 1930s or 1950s? Very well made with netting over top and wire in rim. Any help greatly appreciated.

Took me forever to find this hat thread. On pg. 13. About time the ladies chatted up hats again. IMHO.

Agreed! Sorry I can't help you date your hat, but here are some pictures of my own vintage hats (sorry for the low quality webcam pictures):

A straw hat or Summer, to be packed away until next year now unfortunately. There's no label, for all I know it might be 80s but I love it anyway:

This one's literally just a bunch of feathers on some netting and it's fabulous. The label says "Lord & Taylor, Made in France". I think it's 50s, but feel free to correct me:

This is my favourite, the roses are made of two shades of red velvet/velours, with leaves made of the same fabric in dark green. The red netting is attached with green beads. The label says "Luci Puci", I was told it's 50s and love it to bits:

I agree with the rose hat. I love hats and have many. One of these days I will take the time to show pictures of many of my personal items. i have a beehive hat that is hilarious.

Thank you all. I had seen a specific maker that generally made her hats with the wire in the rim and wrote the name down and now have lost it. It was a pretty pricey hat maker also.
I love the netting as it really helps keep the feathers nice. I have several feather hats and it is hard to keep them perfect without the netting. Smart move.

Foofoogal - I'm with Lauren and Allabout Eve. You should be able to date the union mark with a bit of googling. I have a few garments with similar marks and figured out they were mid to late 50s based on variations in the mark. If only I'd saved the link!

Ouch..I actually bought that strawberry hat. I adore Bes Ben.
Really? wow, what a coincidence! I would love to see a picture of you wearing it, it must be so much fun!
Don't get me wrong: having it posted in this thread does not necessarily mean I wouldn't wear it myself! :D
I have small green felt hat with a teeny weeny pinky bird on it and a big pink feather and simply love it! Yay

[/IMG]Okay here you go, sorry if this turns out huge I'm still getting the hang of posting pictures--and curling my hair as you can undoubtedly see. Your hat sounds beautiful. I know its ridiculous to wear strawberries on my head, but I do love it.

Odile, you look absolutely stunning!!
I just gaped and went "WOW"! The hat, dress, and make-up go together so well, nowhere near ridiculous! Where did you get that dress?
Also love your kitchen furniture, I dream of having a fifties intérieur as well.

Odile- That looks wonderful on you! I love how the red (in the hat, dress, and lipstick) bring out the red in your hair! Now when someone says you have strawberry blonde hair, you can say "I've got a strawberry hat too!"

Always remember that it takes a lady with a personality to wear a hat. And you've got to have a whole lotta personality to pull off that hat and look as good as you do! ;) Actually, you're inspiring me to go pick out a hat right now to meet my husband in the airport.
