What traditions do you have in your family that are either vintage or vintage related?
My family usually has a reunion, with between 30-60 of my immediate cousins, aunts, uncles, etc
We always plays music by Doris Day, Bing Crosby, and all the other greats,

On my grandfather's old record player.

My grandmother bakes "oodles" of food, with desserts ranging from pies to cakes to brownies (like these!)

Swedish Meatballs (My great grandparent's were Swedish)

Not being Christian or religious in any way, I hold no special significance to Christmas apart from an excuse to be nice, give presents. Get presents and pig out.

Hardly golden era, but for the past few years, my family has maintained a tradition of going to my uncle's house each Christmas for dinner. Uncle being a quality cuisine caterer by profession, we always get a great meal. It's the ONE time in the year that I ever eat Caviar.

Sadly, this is my first Christmas where I won't be having them... I'll have to see if my grandma can teach my wife how to make them, but this year we can't get the needed ingredients... :eusa_doh:

Our Vintage Christmas Tree

It's a natural tree, cut in the wild, no clipping to shape. All individual ornaments, some handmade, no two alike, no plain balls. Oh - and real candles.

My "A Christmas Story" Room

I always set up all my "A Christmas Story" movie related stuff for the holidays and watch the movie over again (maybe several times) as is the tradition every year.

Other classic Christmas movies are watched as well, on intermission I play old radio shows and classic Christmas music through the old radio via my iPod. The radio is the exact same model as the one in the movie.

Hi Tom- Great idea about exchanging an antique gift with your Dad at Xmas. What a great tradition.
I like the phone you received, what is your Dads gift? Is that a Boot jack? I can't seem to make it out.
Also I like your Cardigan sweater, my daughter picked me up a black cardigan at the local goodwill for $6.00 it is in great shape.
Her and I love to compare getting good deals at the local goodwills or thrifts shops etc. I found her a nice pair of sterling and bakelite earrings for $8.00 she will be pleased.
Tom, I losted track on the car you were selling on ebay. How did that finally end for you? I hope you received the price you were trying to obtain.

We're both pretty avid collectors, so it keeps things interesting.

Dad's gift is a flat-top can-opener from Pabst.

I ended up with a dead-beat buyer on the car, so it's put away 'til spring.

Trust me, Dad's got a big head already lol He enjoyed the compliment though. By the way, I'm 22 and he'll be 53 in 3 days.

As we have little ones in the house, we have not displayed our 1930s Christmas ornaments for many a year, but at the mo in Britain a number of the retailers have caught onto the idea of 'vintage Christmas' thus we have been able to procure reasonable repro (shatter proof) Christmas decorations.

Many of Czech 70's-80's Christmas deco looks like that (imho) and are quite cheap. I'd also say that many of these are still manufactured.
