Some knockouts there, Matt! Very nice. Hard to pick a favorite, but I think it would be that space age design Trevira with the gold (?) accent. I love the texture of the red part.

A kid's tie, three skinnys and a "pin-up" from yesterday's thrifting. All less that $1.00 each.

Kid's clip-on. 10-1/2" x 1-1/4".

No-name plaid/chess. 54" x 1-1/4".

Regal, acetate/rayon, 55" x 1-3/4". (excuse the wrinkle)

Botany, square-cut, 53" x 2".

Dyers Hand Tailored Sets, 51-1/2" x 4-1/2". Not your normal hand-painted "pin-up". She looks 1940s to me. Not sure if this was a business out of a home, but the current listing for that address shows a small abandoned house and several obits for the Dyers list that address.

Edit: September 29, 1976 -- "MRS. DOVIE A. DYER Mrs. Dovie A. Dyer, 93, of 2408 Lister, died Monday at a nursing home at 5900 Swope Parkway. She was born in Henderson, Tenn., and had lived here 57 years. Mrs. Dyer owned the Dyer Tie Company, 2408 Lister, from 1940 until she retired in 1963."

Thank y'all for the compliments. Picked up four good ties today. Went to a vintage sale in LA. Heard there may have been some fellow loungers there. 3 1940s and a late 50s I would say.

That's interesting, Bob. Makes you wonder how Dyer sold her "sets" & what was included in the set; a hand painted handkerchief? Maybe she sold to some of the better stores such as Emery Bird Thayer?

It's impossible to know exactly what yr they bought the property on Lister because we don't know how long she lived in the nursing home. But it had to be sometime in the early teens to have lived there 57 yrs.. Not a very good area today. Zerelda Mimms James, widow of Jesse James was living about 20 blocks west & south of Lister on Tracy where she died in 1900. Their time could have almost overlapped.

Here's one that I had actually passed by several times; it was so garish looking (in my honest opinion) that I simply didn't contend that it could be vintage.
However quite recently I was brushing it aside to see some other ties, and felt the fabric. It immediately had the right 'feel' and so I looked at the construction which further solidified that it was vintage.
As for the age, I'm not exactly sure but I'm guessing around 1930's? Any ideas?

MN - that tie is perhaps pretty old. Like 1910s or 1920s. With that selvedge edge on the small blade. I'd be interested in buying if you're selling?

Hey I'm not being definitive Bob! Selvedge did carry on into the thirties but was just more typical in the earlier days these things are always a patchwork of knowledge that we all contribute to in equal measure!

Good point, Eddy. After you said, I realized the same edge at one of my ties, that is 10's/20's very probably. It is a shorty, too.
