Picked up these at the Goodwill today. All date to the 1950's I guess? Maybe some of the more informed can narrow it down a bit (first two maybe late 40's/early 50's, the others mid to late 50's?) The knot-planned tie is likely from 1947-1951---the hey day of tie awesomeness. The others would all be after that. That doesn't mean the others don't have merit though---especially the hand paint and the blue one. The thin ties are 1955 to about 1965.

Thank you for the input. I guess I was not too far off in my estimation. The blue one with the leaves is my favorite, I have a 1950's suit that it will go with very nicely. All are in great condition too, they look to be hardly, if ever worn. I felt quite fortunate to find them all in one shot.

Found this Cheney Cravats today.
Resilient construction, unlined.

I usually like Cheney ties. This is no exception. They also came out with Gamebird prints that are interesting.

Today, I went to the thrift store, and got these ties. The Pierre Cardin is 59" long. The American Traditions is 58" long. The John Henry is 57" long. The Barrington is 55" long. The White New Haven is 58" long. The J.Press/Real Ancient Madder Burgundy one is 57" long, and the Red J.Press/Real Ancient Madder is 58" long. The Picone is 58" long. I am afraid that I don't know when any are from. I assume they are all 70s or later.

I remember many of those brands were popular in the 1980s. I would guess that most come from then. The Pierre Cardin, John Henry and the American Traditions in particular.

Some new charity shop buys.

Starting with the one I believe to be the oldest:

Llyod's De Luxe Quality. Terylene.
Carmine Red, Jet Grey and Silver.
4" at its widest, and 49" long.


Tootal Gold Quality. Polyester.
Silver, Black and Green
3.5" at its widest, 53" long.

Late 50s/60s?

Tootal Gold Quality. Terylene.
Burgundy and Gold.
2.5" at its widest and 53.25" long.

Has a curious 'Q' embroidered at varying lengths down the tie, only one of which is actually on full display, mid way down the length of the the widest blade - the others are round the back side or disappearing into seams.

60s/70s?

It's nothing terribly old or remarkable, but this one caught my eye today at the Salvation Army store. Partly because I was looking for a grey tie and partly because of the subtle knot planned design.

Got home and discovered this logo on the bottom of the thin side. Never knew they put their name on ties.

Joshua - very nice! I really like the Lloyds and the green Tootal. Are those the ones you were going back for?

Strapped - that's an interesting design. Good for summer!

Joshua: I know some people are going to say that terylene ties are bad (not authentic vintage etc etc) but don't worry. They can look great, and that is a good example. If you pick up a nice grey 1950s suit and a crisp white van heusen shirt, put it with that tie and - bingo! - a nice British vintage look. And it's pretty much the style that Eddie goes for most days!

And the 'gold quality' is a good one. Some are thinner than others. That's one of the wider, earlier examples.

As for the 'Q' tie: I guess it was made for a company/club/association etc. That's a difficult one to wear!

Dead right! Terylene ties are great. Honestly some of the nicest ties I own are Terylene; theyre easy to clean and if the weave is right as durable as anything. As TT says, I'll wear Terylene as often as wool or silk.

I feel a 'Terylene Appreciation' thread coming up...

I didn't know Dobbs licensed ties either. Pretty cool that it's on a vintage inspired design.

Only problem with terylene is you need to cool iron it or on a wool setting with an ironing cloth to stop any shine appearing.
