I've seen just as bad from the 20s/30s. The only difference is the fabric. I agree that the 70s polys were worse than the 30s rayons, at least the hand was worse. But the 70s ties were far more resilient to wearing. Those 20s/30s 5 cent ties are incredibly fragile, and reading Apparel Arts etc. would suggest they were that fragile when the were made.

But the patterns? Poor aesthetic sense has blighted design houses from the beginnings of design.[huh]

Very nice, QB. You have a knack for finding ties, particluarly NOS...Never heard of Melmores. The Artistic of Balto looks late '30s, don't you think? And I'd like to see the square-bottomed ones if you don't mind.

those are some fine ties, excellent finds. It only makes me that much more frustrated that my goodwill store in Juneau is so remarkably lacking!

Yes, it's from Suomi. Manufacturer is Petrifun.

The tie cost 35 euros and it's made of 100% silk.

The Artistic has all the construction style from 1930s, but still it just seems too wide to me. Here's the squared-off ones. This design is actually my preferred (at the moment anyway).

Believe me, this find was a rarity. I'm still baffled about them still with their labels.

70s horrormovies were great. Tha had to be terrifying because everything else was already so bad. Think the exorcist, dawn of the dead, texas chainsaw massacre....

BTW thank you and widebrim for the help with dating my ties. It's good to have your opinion. I hoped they were older, because I don't like the sixties/late fifties suits...but well. I still like the ties.

Here's a few of the ties I acquired in thrift stores over the years. One thrift store in particular got so many ties in they used to sell them in plastic bags holding about 50 ties for 2.95. If you were lucky they might hold as many as a dozen 40's era ties. I would just re-donate the ones I didn't want back to the store. I found the hand painted sign for ties in a thrift store a couple years ago for $4.95. It's amazing the work department stores used to put into these signs back in the heyday of department stores.

Quigley...great ties and I love the tags! I swear, I love the font and style of vintage labels nearly as much as the article itself.

Kahuna...that is a really creative way to display your ties! I'm going to take a wild guess that you do not have a cat, lol.

Can any one help?
Today I purchased a wonderful item that I know very little about and I was wondering if you men could help me. (I actually squealed when I saw it!)
To start, it’s a small gift box with a picture of a very young and handsome looking Jack Buchanan on it and it’s signed (printed), yours-----?------- (I haven't quite worked out what the second word is yet!) Jack Buchanan (Date 1930’s?) and inside was a navy and white silk tie with a matching hankie. The only marking on the tie is an embroidered label saying exactly the same thing as on the box cover!
Have any of you come across these sets?
Where did you buy them? Why were they produced and who by? Etc….
Sorry for all the questions but I am completely baffled and I wanna know more!!!
I’ll try and get a picture of it if that would help!

Well, from l to r.....'Haband's Ty Tweed,' 'Fruit of the Loom,' and ' Penny's Towncraft.' This is the first Fruit of the Loom tie I've seen.
