In those halcyon days before the nanny state when people could smoke and drink as they pleased, cigarette boxes and table lighters were a common feature in any well-appointed household. Does anyone still maintain the tradition? We do.
I'll start this thread with a table lighter that just might be the coolest one ever invented. It's the permanent match type, big and heavy, and made of a mottled, reddish-brown Bakelite.
The inner workings are a wonder to behold - 4 batteries and big spark coil. When you pull out the lighter shaft it breaks contact with two spring steel strips and throws a big, fat spark to light the wick.
It holds enough lighter fluid for a couple of weeks use and we've had the same batteries in it for almost 4 years.
Impressed on the bottom are instructions, patent numbers, and "Made in England by Dorset Light Industries, Ltd., Bridport, Dorset
