And now for something completely different...

Some recent shots from around Beacon, NY... made with a circa-1963 Olympus Pen F half-frame 35mm FILM camera. I've had this camera in the collection for years, but it had overexposure problems (the auto-diaphragm was slow to close), and I only just got it repaired. Good old Tri-X developed in D-76, then scanned the negs at 2400 dpi and did minor cropping and tweaking:

The camera itself is a masterpiece of midcentury design, a tiny SLR that takes interchangeable lenses (these were shot with the 38mm normal lens, equivalent to a 55mm on a standard 35mm camera). It gets two vertical 18x24mm negatives in place of each standard horizontal 35mm neg, so I got 53 shots on a 24-exposure roll... and with today's films, there's plenty of resolution and detail in the smaller negatives. It's a shame that half-frame 35mm is a barely recalled format nowadays, I love this little manual camera!

Nice shots and a great little Camera. I was an Olympus guy myself back in the film days with OM-1, OM-3, and OM-4. Still have the OM-4 and a bunch of lenses.

Thanks. Your shots are excellent too!

I still regularly shoot with my OM-2 also. I have four lenses, and as a backup body, my old OM-G (aka OM-20). The OM-2 is undoubtedly the most ergonomically pleasant SLR I've ever used, with outstanding lenses and dead-on metering. (I also sometimes use an Olympus Stylus Epic point-and-shoot that was originally my son's camera before he went digital. Yet another very small, seriously great Olympus camera!)

I also shoot with a Nikon F2 and a bunch of Nikkor lenses - I inherited this equipment, and MUCH more, from my parents, who ran a small commercial studio for over 50 years. Of course, the Nikon produces outstanding images too, is built like a piece of military hardware, and is also a hoot to shoot... but lugging around a camera its size/weight is a chore. Especially compared to the OM-2. Speaking of smaller...

I was a Minox subminiature shooter for much of my life too, but that teeny negative requires really sharp shooting/processing/printing (and/or scanning/tweaking) skills, and I'm not up to it any more. So I retired my Minoxes last year and got my half-frame Pen F repaired - I wasn't ready to give up on smaller-than-full-frame-35mm negatives yet!
