Very nice! How was the program?

While I would consider the AR-15/M-16/M-4 family of rifles to be a vintage design (originally designed and built in the '50s) and think it a great weapon system, recent posts featuring the AR-15/M-16/M-4 have been deleted...hopefully yours will not be the case. I have a S&W M&P 15 I would love to post.

I think an exception is made for currently-active military/law-enforcement and their issued tools... though, frankly, I'm surprised the thread hasn't been completely nuked.

The program is really enjoyable (except for the very long wait during the multitude of firing relays) - definitely not your highly structured annual rifle range. There's a lot of pivoting and shooting on the move towards the target. I should bring the elevation up a tad, but there's not doubt I'll be able to make contact with the enemy should I need to when I head to Afghanistan later this year.

I think sport shooting, reloading and firearms proficiency (along with firearms collecting later down the road) were valid aspects of life during the post-WWII years (50's-60's and beyond) when men were coming home and mixing their recent experience of firearms with their need for recreational hobbies. I also think this thread is a good place for that discussion (both historical and current), while avoiding the pitfalls we’ve established as a whole over the Lounge.

That being said, I think we should avoid talk of what has been done to this thread in the past, and focus on where we can go with this discussion in the future. I’m not trying to sound like Mr. Know-It-All, I promise – but like Diamondback said, and I agree, this thread has nearly tipped itself into the Abyss more than a few times. I’d like to see it stay up here, especially with all of the marvelous posts and topics we’ve covered, including some gorgeous firearms pictures.

I’m not picking on anyone either. Believe me, the mods can tell you I’ve certainly had my share of insert-foot-into-mouth posts on this thread (including the almost aborted attempt to post this very thread to begin with!).

Let's keep this boat sailing, and keep posting your pics! :cheers1: We'll just weather the storms as they come!

Anyway, WOW, OH WOW. What a wonderful collection of period weapons. I love the Thompsons. Don't ever let them get away from you. The Police Department here has two, with selective fire switches. They were given them in the 20's when Dillinger etc were around.

They were told if they ever decided to get rid of them, they'd have to send them to the Government (what department I don't know), and they'd then have them DESTROYED !!!! ARGH!!!! Such pieces of HISTORY... DESTROYED...??? (They have opted (for now anyway) to keep them, but who knows what future aministrator might do something totally stupid and foolish and send them off)

Thanks for being such a great steward of these fine historical/museum pieces!

I wonder how common it was for these to find their way to police departments. The police department my Dad was a Sgt with had acouple aswell and they actually dusted theirs off in the 80's when a biker gang from California decided to come up this way. Different times and hospitality but they turned around. Fun story, but I wonder what happened to those Thompsons.
