1928 New Service Target. My Grandfather ordered this gun new in 1928

I'm a S&W guy myself but that is way cool. Must be fairly rare I would guess. Are those Ropers?

Pre model 36 chiefs special Smith from about 1957. This is like the one that Henry Hill beats the piss out of his girlfriends neighbor with in Goodfellas

Yeah, with a retired Marine general in charge these days, Colt can't seem to get beyond it's rifles and the 1911 variants. Except for the SAA, their revolvers are nothing but a whisper of history. No wonder S&W outsells them by an order of magnitude. If it weren't for government contracts, the grand old firm would be toast.

Hi

I've personally never thought about getting a Nickel revolver. Is it worth the effort? I like my firearms Parkerized or at least blued. Of course I may be jaded by the fact that most of the nickel revolvers I've seen weren't in the best of shape.

I have a nickle plated Smith Model 12 snubby that I love. The finish is great. But I have run across several other nickle plated ones that were very rough looking. So I would take it on a case by case basis. You can find some good ones out there still.

I posted in this thread a couple weeks ago about getting a 1942 Remington 513T from the CMP that had a radically shaved comb on the buttstock. The buttstock looked more like a tail fin from a 1957 DeSoto. http://www.thefedoralounge.com/show...s-your-Guns!&p=1354141&viewfull=1#post1354141
I ordered a stock from Numrich / Gun Parts Corp and received a nice ex-military example with Letterkenney Army Depot markings as well as a small white-painted rack number "1" on the left side of the stock. The stock has some dents and dings (I like to call them character marks) but nothing major. Here are a couple shots of the re-stocked rifle.

Bob Bettis of the S&W Forum made the following statement: "Guns with "character" and people with "character" share a common virtue. Those who know them tend to call upon them in times of need more than they do guns and people who exude only "value".
