I'll have to get mine down and take a pic.. but I wanted to start this thread before I forgot!
What are you wearing for Easter? I'm not even sure if I'll wear a hat, but the one I have in mind sure has Easter written all over it, ha!

It won't matter what I wear, I am a communion assistant and will be wearing a robe. I am not too thrilled about it, because I was a communion assistant on Christmas Eve. At least my mom was here for Christmas, so my husband had someone to sit with. But this Sunday he will have to sit alone. And I like the sunrise service on Easter, and I have been assigned to the 11:00 service which will be PACKED.

I am honored to be a part of the the wonderful services, but I may try to find someone to switch with, hehe. I also cry my eyes out all through Holy Week, Good Friday is the worst but I cry alot at the Maundy Thursday and Easter services as well. And of course Communion is right after the sermon, which always makes me blubber, even on a normal Sunday. So to have to help with Communion with red eyes and a tear streaked face makes me feel a bit silly. I don't think I know anyone else that cries like I do.

So, sorry to go so off topic there. I don't have anything picked out yet. I would like a hat, but the ones I liked for Easter went sky-high with the bidding and my Easter suit got ruined last year when someone opened the dryer and re-started it on high. It was a white linen suit and it would fit a 2 year old after the high heat. I admit, I am in sore need of something to wear!

Oh boy. I am a sight to behold during services from Thursday - Sunday. Even as a kid I remember getting very emotional about the whole thing. Midnight Mass is gets me too. And I'm not attractive when I cry. Lots of snorting and gasping and other weird noises I'm not sure even have names! You are definitely not alone, GoldLeaf!

I have been searching high and low for my outfit but every Target I go to is sold out of my size.

I have the prettiest mint green floral dress with flutter sleeves that I bought for the Gatsby Summer Afternoon in Oakland a couple of years ago (and then got a case of shyness and didn't go) so that will be my Easter dress this year.

It would look perfect with my favorite little pink cloche but alas, I will be sitting in the choir that morning and I don't think they'd appreciate my hat up there and the dress will be covered up by a gynormous purple robe so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

The hat, however, will make an appearance when I stroll through town later that afternoon on my way to lunch.....because I'm going to be starving after singing in all three services. I'm sure I'll attract more than a few curious looks because I'll be all dressed up but alone since Mr. Angel is already working in California and I'm still back here in Florida. I should dig out some white gloves to complete the look. I'll be the very breath of spring.....even though it'll probably be in the high 80's that day so it'll feel more like summer than spring. ;)

I usually like to buy a new frock, but cash is a little short at the moment.I have a nice pair of light grey trousers that i love, and i have been trying to find a good sweater to go with, but no luck yet.i want a hat as well, but, now I am really getting carried away!

WARNING: This post contains stupid questions from an amazed, but puzzeled foreigner.

What is a easter bonnet, what does it look like, who wears it, when and why? I would like to know more, this might be fascinating! Pics?

There is no such thing as a stupid question, Helen Troy!

Here is a Wiki entry explaining what an Easter bonnet is...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_bonnet

And here is another link...
http://www.hatsandveils.net/blog/?p=8

As far as what they look like...most are usually a straw or other light weight material and decorated with spring flowers, ribbons, and lace. It isn't very common to see Easter bonnets on any one other than small children, which is a shame. Here is a link showing some Easter bonnets...

Gosh, I looked in a couple stores this weekend for a hat. Ick! There are some pretty terrible hats for sale. I guess I will have to go without :(

And thanks, ladies. It's good to know I am not the only one that sniffles at church :)

Thanks a lot, Kim B! I didn't even think to wiki it, I'm still getting used to the idea of a encyclopedia that contains everything! (Allmost.)

What a wonderful tradition, very fun to learn about! Lovely pics of the old ladies' cute bonnets. (I liked the one with the hegdehog best.) I hope as many as possible honors the tradition and wears easter bonnets, (preferably with hegdehogs:)), and I will just sit here in the North and envy you all. Happy easter to all of you!

Ok girls, finally have some pics. Here's my hat... and I have the original box too. I'm thinking it's 60's?

and one of my all time favorite vintage dresses ever! I snapped this up on the bay a few years ago, OSS for only $2.99!! The details are so sweet. I love the blue berries. The pleated organdy trim edged in blue.. just stunning. And the seams are all finished with seam tape! I'd say 1939. Zips up the front.

A quick goofy hair shot.. just put up in combs.

What a darling hat and dress! I so wish I could wear a hat, but I'm in the choir as well and calling attention to myself that way isn't a good idea. At least we never wear robes, so I can be happy wearing my pretty new 1930s lace knit dress and jacket. :)

Ohairas, you look adorable! The dress is perfect and I really like the hat. You have great taste!

HoneyDoll, that hat is fabulous! I think it will suit you quite well. Very classic!

I'm inspired

I read this thread when it first posted and it got me thinking about "easterizing" one of my bonnets!

Today I found a cute 2 piece navy and white outfit on sale and I think I'll make over my big blue 40's straw with lots of flowers and furbelows...watch here for pics soon!

*digs through hat boxes and trimmings....*

and on a side note - I am not a stranger to crying in church either....I always make sure i have a hankie in my bag

Foof, that is such a pretty dress and perfect for spring! I wasn't able to wear my spring dress either. I resorted to jeans and a 50's cardigan.

Anyhow, I did wear the hat in my avie as my bonnet and I thought I was going to get a lot of lip from my relatives but they all loved it and wished they wore one. I am breaking them in slowly. ;)

Thank you. They said it was the coldest day here which is about 60 miles north of Houston by Lake Conroe since 1934. It is supposed to be 84 degrees on Tuesday.
