I didn't realise it is unusal to wear an apron! I always wear one when I'm cooking and most of the time when I'm cleaning too. My standard is a massive french white linen bakers apron. Covers everything. When it gets a bit stained I just bleach it all clean again.

My Mother and Nana always wore aprons too, you see. My Mum loves them! I bought her a great embroidered 1930s one when I was in California last year. She told me she had memories of her mother wearing one when she was little so I snapped it up for her. She was thrilled.

Wow! That is a great piece. I can just see both my Mom and my Grandmother wearing their aprons while in the kitchen cooking. Thanks for bringing me back to some great times.

Just yesterday I took out my collection of vintage aprons, unfolded them so I can admire them, folded them back up and put them away again. I only actually use vintage aprons that already have some kid of flaw or newer ones. I just cherish my oldies so much I don't want to ruin them! (Same for vintage dish towels).

I get most of my aprons from Church rummage sales and it's a tell tale sign that they are always pressed, smell of laundry soap and fresh air since they reflect the values of the older ladies. They generally took very good care of what they owned.

I have two aprons in my kitchen, a half apron and a full apron. They are indispensable for keeping clean while working around the house and cooking.

Yes! I wear mine. My favorites are 50's terry cloth ones that were my grandmothers. One has poodles on it and the other has coffee cups.

I don't actually have a vintage apron. I would wear a vintage repro for baking and such, but I don't know if I'd want to wear a vintage one because I'd be afraid of ruining it. I suppose it would depend on what I was cooking/baking. I think your apron is beautiful, Inky! Thanks for the link.

I have several pinny-style aprons in different cotton prints, which I wear for Heavy Chores --

When I'm doing filthy hands and knees work, though, I wear a suit of denim overalls. An apron can only do so much.

Oh yes, always! I have a few full length ones and a ton of half-aprons. My favorite is a vintage blue gingham half apron with poodles, and a terry cloth towel attached for wiping hands!

I have a lovely 50s floral half apron that I don't use for chores - the fabric is so lovely that I have considered turning into a skirt. For use, I have a very colourful full apron with handy pockets that cost me just 20 pence at my local charity shop. I'm a pretty messy baker lol

For more heavy duty chores I don a headscarf, take off my shoes, roll up my sleeves and jean legs and get stuck in.

I have 3 aprons - none of them vintage. One's a blue & green checked one that I've had about 15 years, one's natural-coloured canvas with an embroidered logo that I got at a cooking school I attended in Italy, and one's a very cute floral half apron that a friend gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago. There is a point in every beetroot-related project where I think "Why aren't I wearing an apron?" but I never remember to put them on before I start cooking!

I love aprons, ad if I don't wear them while cooking or doing house work I end up covered in gunk! I have tons of patterns, just no time to make them right now.

I don't own any vintage aprons, but I do use modern aprons, and I'm working on a vintage repro right now. They're handy for cooking, and also for eating breakfast or lunch when you're wearing something nice.

I'm tempted to make one for when I work on art, too - I don't like artist's smocks, but I find myself needing something to keep the paint, pastels, and graphite off.

I have tons of vintage aprons. I collect the fancy hostess Christmas ones. With sequins and felt.
I wear a special one and hang them around at Christmas.
The first thing I sewed in homemaking was an apron and my mom wore one every day.
A show a few years back , Hope and Grace I think had scenes wearing aprons. I so wanted it to start a huge revival of sorts.

When I bake, I wear my old Denny's apron.

If I baked or cooked I would definitely wear one, though perhaps not a vintage one because I would be afraid of staining it permanently. But, I am considering wearing an apron while sewing to keep threads from sticking to my clothes!
